Fernando Soto Aparicio
Fernando Soto Aparicio (October 1, 1933 – May 2, 2016) was a Colombian poet, storyteller, playwright, novelist, librettist, and screenwriter. He was born in Socha, in the Department of Boyacá. Fernando Soto Aparicio spent his childhood in Santa Rosa de Viterbo. He is remembered for the novel ''The rebellion of the rats''. After several decades as a professor at various universities in the country, in 1961 he was exalted with the prize Selecciones Lengua Española, in 1970 he received the Casa de las Américas Prize The Casa de las Américas Prize (''Premio Literario Casa de las Américas'') is a literary award given by the Cuban Casa de las Américas. Boyacá Department
Boyacá () is one of the thirty-two departments of Colombia, and the remnant of Boyacá State, one of the original nine states of the "United States of Colombia". ''La rebelión de las ratas'' en: ''The Rebellion of the Rats''is a novel written by Colombian writer Fernando Soto Aparicio and published in 1962. It is a testimonial tale about the hardship and inhuman conditions of the poor working classes in Colombia. The book is about a poor mine worker, Rudecindo Cristancho, who attempts to form a miner's union. The organizing campaign turns into a rebellion that leads to Cristancho's death. Plot The book starts with a description of the pristine landscape that existed before the arrival to the Valley of Timbalí of wealthy foreigners who brought with them “progress” to the region and changed the green landscape with the introduction of paved roads.
