Fernando Coto Albán (October 30, 1919 – September 28, 1989) was a Costa Rican jurist. He succeeded Fernando Baudrit Solera as President of the Supreme Court of Justice of Costa Rica and held the position from 1975 to 1983. He was born in Cartago, Costa Rica Cartago () is the head city of Cartago canton of the Cartago Province, and is composed of the Oriental and Occidental districts as stated in the administrative divisions of Costa Rica. Fernando Baudrit Solera
Fernando Baudrit Solera (October 23, 1907 – 1975) was a Costa Rican jurist. Born in Heredia, he was the son of Oscar Baudrit González and Carmen Solera Pérez. He married Adilia Gómez Mesén. He graduated from the Law School of Costa Rica. He was a professor and dean of the College of Law at the University of Costa Rica, rector of the university from 1946 to 1953, member of the Asamblea Constituyente of 1949, and president of the Bar Association. He was selected to be Magistrate of the Assembly of Annulment of the Supreme Court of Costa Rica for the period 1955–1963 and was re-appointed for the periods 1963–1971 and 1971–1979, although he died during the latter. He presided over the Assembly of Annulment and the Supreme Court as a whole from 1955 until his death. His term as president of the Supreme Court is the longest in Costa Rican history and is considered one of the most brilliant. The Supreme Court of Costa Rica (Spanish: ''Corte Suprema de Justicia de Costa Rica'') is the court of greater hierarchy of Law and Justice in Costa Rica. Established on 25 January 1825, the current President of the Supreme Court of Justice is Fernando Cruz Castro since 1 August 2018. All of the courts in the country are dependent on the Supreme Court of Justice. Its organizational structure is based on three factors: the matter of the subjects to solve, the territory where they take place and the quantity (amount of money that is involved in the subject). The Supreme Court has 22 proprietary magistrates, 25 substitute magistrates in three first chambers and 12 substitute magistrates in the Constitutional Chamber. Cartago () is the head city of Cartago canton of the Cartago Province, and is composed of the Oriental and Occidental districts as stated in the administrative divisions of Costa Rica. It was the capital of Costa Rica from 1574 to 1824. History Founded in 1563 by Juan Vasquez de Coronado, it was the first successful establishment in Costa Rica. The city was granted a coat of arms by King Philip II of Spain in 1565, and the title of Muy Noble y Muy Leal ("Very Noble and Very Loyal") by the Cortes (Spanish Parliament) in 1814.
