Fergus Martin
Fergus Martin was born in Cork, Ireland. He studied painting at Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology, Dún Laoghaire School of Art from 1972 – 1976. From 1979 – 1988 he lived and worked in Italy, where he lectured in English Language at the University of Milan. In 1988, he returned to painting and had his first solo exhibition at the Oliver Dowling Gallery, Dublin, in 1990. In 1991, he attended The New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture. He received awards from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, New York, in 1999 and 2006, and was awarded The Marten Toonder Award by The Arts Council/An Comhairle Ealaíon in 1999. In 2001, he was elected to Aosdána. Aosdána is an affiliation of creative artists in Ireland. Dublin Dental University Hospital ( ga, Ospidéal Déadach Ollscoile Átha Cliath) is a dental health and teaching facility in Lincoln Place, Dublin, Ireland. History The facility was established in a building off St Stephen's Green in 1879. It moved to a purpose-built building in Lincoln Place in 1895. Since the 1990s, the Trinity College School of Dental Science, established by amalgamating the dental schools of Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, has been based in the hospital. Aosdána ( , ; from , 'people of the arts') is an Irish association of artists. It was created in 1981 on the initiative of a group of writers with support from the country's Arts Council. Membership, which is by invitation from current members, is limited to 250 individuals; before 2005 it was limited to 200. Its governing body is called the Toscaireacht. The Hugh Lane Gallery, officially Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane and originally the Municipal Gallery of Modern Art, is an art museum operated by Dublin City Council and its subsidiary, the Hugh Lane Gallery Trust.
