University Of Hull
The University of Hull is a public research university in Kingston upon Hull, a city in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It was founded in 1927 as University College Hull. The main university campus is located in Hull and is home to the Hull York Medical School, a joint initiative with the University of York. Students are served by Hull University Union. Thomas Ferens
Thomas Robinson Ferens (4 May 1847 – 9 May 1930) was a British Liberal politician, a philanthropist, and an industrialist. He was the Member of Parliament for Kingston upon Hull East for 13 years, and served the city as a Justice of the Peace and as High Steward. He helped establish Reckitt and Sons, a manufacturer of household goods, as one of Kingston upon Hull's foremost businesses. His career with the company spanned 61 years—from his initial employment as a confidential and shorthand clerk until his death, as chairman, in 1930. In the House of Commons, Ferens spoke to further the cause of Women's Rights. He supported women's suffrage at home, and repeatedly drew attention to the trafficking of women and girls in the colonies. But never a great orator, and by nature a retiring man, much of his work at Westminster was completed in the committee rooms, away from the limelight. Peter Lamarque
Peter Vaudreuil Lamarque (; born 21 May 1948) is a British aesthethician and philosopher of art, working in the analytic tradition. Since 2000, he has been a professor of philosophy at the University of York. He is known primarily for his work in philosophy of literature and on the role of emotions in fiction. Education Lamarque was educated at Marlborough College and received a BA degree in English and Philosophy from the University of East Anglia. He then completed a BPhil in philosophy at The Queen's College, Oxford in 1972, where he worked under the supervision of Laurence Jonathan Cohen. Career From 1972 to 1995 Lamarque taught in the Philosophy Department at the University of Stirling, and from 1995 to 2000 he held the Ferens Chair in Philosophy at the University of Hull. Kathleen Lennon
Kathleen Lennon, a former Ferens Professor of Philosophy, is an Emeritus Professor of Philosophy at the University of Hull, England. Career After studying for her undergraduate degree at the University of Kent, Lennon obtained her master's degree and doctorate from the University of Oxford. In 1979, she was employed as a lecturer by the University of Hull. Lennon was a founder of the university's Centre for Gender Studies in 1986, and of the Society for Women in Philosophy in 1989. After some thirty years at the university, Lennon was, in 2008, appointed Ferens Professor of Philosophy giving her inaugural lecture, 'Re- enchanting the World: the role of Imagination in Perception' in 2009. She retired from the chair in 2014. Nick Zangwill (born 1957) is a British philosopher and honorary research professor at University College London and Lincoln University. He is known for his expertise on moral philosophy (especially metaethics), and aesthetics (especially the philosophy of music and visual art). He has also written on metaphysics, epistemology, the philosophy of mind, and logic. Background In metaethics, Zangwill has defended non-naturalism, with a special attention to dependence of morality on natural properties. Professor (commonly abbreviated as Prof.) is an academic rank at universities and other post-secondary education and research institutions in most countries.
