Ferenc Velkei
Ferenc Velkey or Velkei (November 15, 1915 – September 12, 2008) was a Hungarian basketball and field handball player, and sports administrator. Velkey was born in Nagykáta on November 15, 1915. He played for the Hungarian national basketball team for many years, competing in three European Championships, including a third place finish in 1946. He retired from playing in 1949, after which he continued to be involved in the sport as an international referee and administrator. Away from basketball, he was a member of the Hungarian field handball team which finished fourth in the Olympic tournament in 1936. Nagykáta
Nagykáta is a town in , Hungary, about from Budapest. Connections Express trains take 47 minutes to Budapest Keleti railway station from Nagykáta and stopping trains about 65 minutes. History The history of Nagykáta dates back to the 12th century, when the Pest county branch of the Káta family settled in the region. On the outskirts of Nagykáta, at a place called Kenderhalom, can be found the remains of a village which was the predecessor of Nagykáta at the time of the Árpád dynasty. The Regestrum of Várad mentions the name of the village as hu, Káta in 1221. In the 15th and 16th centuries the name of Nagykáta appears as in several documents. Farkasréti Cemetery or Farkasrét Cemetery ( hu, Farkasréti temető) is one of the most famous cemeteries in Budapest. It opened in 1894 and is noted for its extensive views of the city (several people wanted it more to be a resort area than a cemetery). It comprises tombs of numerous Hungarian notables and it is the most preferred burial place among actors, actresses and other artists (opera singers, musicians, painters, sculptors, architects, writers, poets). The cemetery is also home to the tombs of several scientists, academicians and athletes. Graves are often decorated with noteworthy sculptures. It was provided with parks in the 1950s, when it took on its present appearance and extent. The mortuary hall and the new chapel were built in the 1980s to the plans of Imre Makovecz.
