Ferdinando I, Re Di Napoli
''Ferdinando I, re di Napoli'' is a 1959 Italian comedy film directed by Gianni Franciolini. Plot Naples, 1806. The king Ferdinand I of the Two Sicilies is frowned upon by the people, especially the comic theatrical Pulcinella, which continually delivers hard sermons, earning a reputation among the Neapolitans. Ferdinand one day gets angry and does condemn to death Pulcinella, while every night the king masquerades himself as populate with a false name, having fun in the taverns. Pulcinella unmasks him and invokes the rebellion of the people of Naples, that never comes. However, the cruelty of Ferdinand stops when Napoleon Bonaparte arrives in Italy. While the Neapolitans celebrate (false) freedom, Ferdinand makes a noble disguise his coachman while he wears populate dresses, and runs away from the city. Gianni Franciolini
Gianni Franciolini (1 June 1910 – 1 January 1960) was an Italian film director and screenwriter. He directed 19 films between 1939 and 1959. Life and career Born in Florence, in 1929 he moved to Paris to study journalism; there he came into contact with the artistic avant-garde of the time, particularly with Eugène Deslaw. During this time, he was assistant director of Georges Lacombe and directed the documentary ''Vérité sur l'Italie''. In 1938, he came back in Italy country where he collaborated as a screenwriter and as an assistant director for Camillo Mastrocinque and Mario Soldati, among others. In 1940 he debuted as a feature film director with ''Inspector Vargas''. In the post-war, Franciolini specialized in neo-realist comedies and genre films, often collaborating with Cesare Zavattini. Giacomo Furia
Giacomo Matteo Furia (2 January 1925 – 5 June 2015) was an Italian film, television and stage actor. He appeared in more than 130 films between 1948 and 1998. Life and career Born in Arienzo, near Caserta, Furia started his acting career thanks to Eduardo De Filippo, he had met through an after-school summer job; he made his professional debut on stage in 1945, in De Filippo's "Napoli milionaria". He made his film debut three years later, in Mario Mattoli's '' Assunta Spina''; mainly cast in character roles, he was often a sidekick of Totò, notably landing a major role in ''The Band of Honest Men''.
