At the 1992 Summer Olympics, eight fencing events were contested. Men competed in both individual and team events for each of the three weapon types (épée, foil and sabre), but women competed only in foil events. Franck Boidin
Franck Boidin (born 28 August 1972) is a French foil fencer. He won an individual bronze medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics and in the 2001 World Championships. He is also twice team World champion (1997 and 2001). After his retirement from competition Boidin became coordinator of the foil Youth Development Centre in Châtenay-Malabry. In 2008 he was named national coach for the French women's foil team. Sergey Aleksandrovich Sharikov (russian: Сергей Александрович Шариков, 18 June 1974 – 6 June 2015), also known as Serguei/Sergei Charikov, was a left-handed Russian Olympic champion sabre fencer. In the Olympics he won two gold medals, a silver medal, and a bronze medal. Early life Sharikov was born in Moscow, Russia, and was Jewish. Stanislav Pozdnyakov
Stanislav Alekseyevich Pozdnyakov ( rus, Станислав Алексеевич Поздняков, , stənʲɪˈslaf pəzʲnʲɪˈkof; born 27 September 1973) is a Russian former fencer, a five-time Olympian (1992–2008) and five-time Olympic medalist in the sabre competitions. He was also a ten-time world champion, winning in 1994–2007. He currently serves as the president of the Russian Olympic Committee. In June 2022, he was removed from his position as European Fencing Confederation (EFC) President at an Extraordinary Congress following a unanimous vote of no confidence in Pozdnyakov in March 2022, due to his conduct in the wake of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. His daughter Sofia Pozdniakova is also a fencer and was gold medalist of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics Women's Individual Sabre event.
