Fred Federspiel is an American technology entrepreneur, nuclear physicist and inventor. Biography Born in West Lafayette Indiana in 1963, Federspiel earned a PhD in experimental nuclear physics from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign in 1991, where he led the first self-consistent measurement of the electric and magnetic polarizability of the proton. In 1993, he married his wife, Carey Mills, with whom he has four children,Harry, Ella,Erin, and Leo. A Baritone Sax enthusiast, he played in professor John Garvey's Jazz band for seven years. In 1991 Federspiel joined Los Alamos National Laboratory where he built the real-time data acquisition and analysis system for the Liquid Scintillator Neutrino Detector experiment, which reported evidence for neutrino oscillations in 1996. Frederikke Jakobine Federspiel (1839–1913) was the first female photographer to practice in Denmark. For many years, she ran her own photographic studio in Aalborg, always keeping abreast of the latest developments. Among her clients were the Danish princesses Dagmar and Alexandra who were attracted by her photo enamel jewelry. Early life Born in Horsens, Jutland, she was brought up in a bourgeois home together with her sister and five brothers. Jürg Fortunat Federspiel (28 June 1931 – 12 January 2007) was a Swiss writer, born in Kemptthal, Canton Zurich. Federspiel authored more than 20 novels and short story collections. Background and education Federspiel grew up in Davos and attended secondary school in Basel. Torben Per Federspiel (9 April 1905 – 27 November 1994) was a Danish politician. Per Federspiel was the son of lawyer Holger Federspiel (1868–1934) and Asta Nutzhorn (1880–1951). Because his father lived in England at the time, he received part of his schooling in Harrow school. Subsequently, he enrolled at the law school of the University of Copenhagen. As a student, he was secretary to Viggo Berg, his mother's cousin and son of the left wing leader Christen Berg. He graduated in law in 1931 and in 1937 joined the Bar of the Eastern High Court. Working for the legal firm of Max Rothenborg brought him into contact with Jewish clients and gave him an insight into the condition of the Jews in Hitler's Germany.
