Federico Castillo Yanes (? – 13 April 2013) was a Salvadoran military officer who served as the Minister of National Defense of El Salvador from 1 July 1977 until his resignation on 15 October 1979. Biography Federico Castillo Yanes was born in El Salvador and became officer in the Army. He was appointed as Minister of National Defense by President Carlos Humberto Romero on 1 July 1977. He resigned and left for exile on 15 October 1979 following the overthrow of President Romero. General Carlos Humberto Romero Mena (29 February 1924 – 27 February 2017) was a Salvadoran army general politician who served as President of El Salvador from 1 July 1977, until his overthrow in a coup d'état on 15 October 1979. Early life Romero was born in Chalatenango, El Salvador, on 19 February 1924. Military career Romero studied at the Captain General Gerardo Barrios Military School and the Command and General Staff School. He did specialized horse riding studies in Mexico. Romero was a member of the National Conciliation Party, and also served as Defense Minister from 1972 to 1977. 1979 Salvadoran Coup D'état
The 1979 Salvadoran coup d’état was a military coup d'état that occurred in El Salvador on 15 October 1979. The coup, led by young military officers, bloodlessly overthrew military President Carlos Humberto Romero and sent him into exile. The National Conciliation Party's firm grasp on power was cut, and in its place, the military established the Revolutionary Government Junta of El Salvador (JRG). The junta was composed of two military officers and three civilians. The Revolutionary Government Junta declared itself to be a "reformist junta" which would pass political and economic reforms.
