Federation Of Turkish American Associations
The Federation of Turkish American Associations is a non-profit organization established in 1956 for the purpose of uniting and supporting the Turkish American community within the United States. The Federation has evolved with the changing times and has expanded in size, membership, and purpose since its founding. Members The Federation today consists of over 63 member associations organizations with a majority of these groups located in the Northeast region of the United States. Member organizations consist of associations of different ethnic, technical, and social backgrounds including the Turkic nations (e.g. Azerbaijanis, Uzbeks, and Karachays). Each association serves to support its own members through various functions and events. The Federation operates as a conduit within the network of member organizations. Turkey–United States Relations
Normal diplomatic relations were established between the Republic of Turkey and the United States of America in 1927. Relations after World War II evolved from the Second Cairo Conference in December 1943 and Turkey's entrance into World War II on the side of the Allies in February 1945. Later that year, Turkey became a charter member of the United Nations. Difficulties faced by Greece after the war in quelling a communist rebellion, along with demands by the Soviet Union for military bases in the Turkish Straits, prompted the United States to declare the Truman Doctrine in 1947. Turkish Women's League Of America
The Turkish Women's League of America is an organization for Americans of Turkish origin, who are united in an effort to promote equality and justice for women. Causes TWLA organizes cultural and recreational activities to foster better understanding between the people of Turkey, the United States, and other counties, including the new Turkish republics of the former Soviet Union; such as the Kazakhs, Uzbeks, and Kyrgyz people in the U.S. The organisation also defends human and civil rights, operates an Atatürk School, which offers courses in the Turkish language, Folklore, Literature, Music, Dance and History. The American-Turkish Council (ATC) is a business association dedicated to enhancing the promotion of US-Turkish commercial, defense, technology, and cultural relations. Assembly Of Turkish American Associations
The Assembly of Turkish American Associations (ATAA), created in 1979, is the umbrella organization whose stated purpose is to promote cooperation between the social and cultural Turkish American organizations around the United States. ATAA informs the Turkish American community on how to foster Turkish-American relations and promotes a positive view of Turkey. The organization is also known for its unsuccessful lawsuits arguing for the inclusion of Armenian genocide denial as a legitimate alternate view in the US educational curriculum. Turkish Americans ( tr, Türk Amerikalılar) or American Turks are Americans of ethnic Turkish origin.
