Federalist Greens
The Federalist Greens (''Verdi Federalisti'') are a small environmentalist and Catholic political party in Italy. The national president of the party was Laura Scalabrini. History The party was created in 1992 as a split from the Federation of the Greens. The Federalist Greens debuted to the 1992 political elections however it failed to gain any seats. In the 1994 political elections the party presented its lists only in Lazio, in a uninominal college of the Chamber of Deputies and in all the colleges of the Senate. The result for the Senate, on a regional basis, was respectable (3.23% of the vote), but insufficient to elect any senators. In the 2004 European elections the Federalist Greens presented a joint list with the Greens Greens in all districts. After the European elections, the ''Federalist Greens'' and the ''Greens Greens'' created a common program. 2005 Italian Regional Elections
The Italian regional elections of 3–4 April 2005 were a major victory (11-2) for the centre-left The Union coalition, led by Romano Prodi. 2006 Italian General Election
The 2006 Italian general election was held on 9 and 10 April 2006. Romano Prodi, leader of the centre-left coalition The Union, narrowly defeated the incumbent Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, leader of the centre-right coalition House of Freedoms. Initial exit polls suggested a victory for Prodi, but the results narrowed as the count progressed. On 11 April 2006, Prodi declared victory; Berlusconi never conceded defeat and an ensuing dispute formed. Preliminary results showed The Union leading the House of Freedoms in the Chamber of Deputies, with 340 seats to 277, thanks to obtaining a majority bonus (actual votes were distributed 49.81% to 49.74%). One more seat is allied with The Union (Aosta Valley) and 7 more seats in the foreign constituency. The party was founded in January 1991 by Maurizio Lupi, a physical education teacher and former member of Christian Democracy and of Federation of the Greens. The party took part in Italian elections for the first time at the 1992 general election. The party got 0.07% of the vote in the Chamber of Deputies and 0.09% in the Senate. In 1997, Lupi ran as mayor of Turin, receiving 0.74% of the votes, while his party got 0.81% of the votes. In 1999, the party ran in Turin provincial election, getting 0.38% of the votes. 2004 European Parliament Election In Italy
The 2004 European Parliament election in Italy was held on 12 and 13 June 2004. Italy's highly fragmented party system made it hard to identify an overall trend, but the results were generally seen as a defeat for Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and a victory for the centre-left opposition coalition identified with Romano Prodi, who was President of the European Commission until 2004, and was widely expected to re-enter Italian politics at the next election.
