The Federal University of Amazonas ( pt, Universidade Federal do Amazonas, UFAM) is a public university located in Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil. It is the oldest university in Brazil and one of the largest universities in the northern region of Brazil. It offers a wide array of degrees, with 645 research groups and 65 graduate courses. History The UFAM is the oldest university in Brazil. It was founded on January 17, 1909 as the Free University School of Manáos, born of the same late-19th century economic boom that gave Manaus its rubber barons. The school later becoming the University of Manáos. The economic downturn that followed the collapse of the rubber market, as well as the logistical problems of being located in the Amazon Rainforest, led the school to curtail its academic offerings down to just a law program. Coari (''Choary'') is a Brazilian municipality in the Amazon region. Location The municipal seat of Coari is one of the largest cities of the Amazonas state. It is the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Coari. The area has reserves of oil and natural gas. Coari is served by Coari Airport located 6 km from downtown Coari. Larissa Ribeiro Ramos Tramontin (born February 4, 1989) is a Brazilian beauty pageant titleholder who won Miss Terra Brasil 2009 and Miss Earth 2009, becoming the second Brazilian to win the title. José Melo De Oliveira
José Melo de Oliveira (born September 26, 1946) is a Brazilian politician and was governor of state of Amazonas, Brazil. Melo graduated with a degree in economics from the Federal University of Amazonas in 1967. He began public life while still at the university, where he served in various roles, including as a typist, director of the Department of Education and Sports, Subrector for Academic Affairs, and as a member of the University Council. Later, he worked as a teacher of history at Estelita Tapajós High School in Manaus. Vanessa Grazziotin Bezerra (born June 29, 1961) is a Brazilian politician from the Communist Party of Brazil (PC do B). Although born in Videira, Santa Catarina, Grazziotin based her political career in the state of Amazonas. Twice elected to represent the state in the Chamber of Deputies, she was recently elected for the Federal Senate in the 2010 parliamentary election. Eduardo Braga
Carlos Eduardo de Sousa Braga (born December 6, 1960) is a Brazilian politician and businessman, currently a republic senator from Amazonas. Better known as ''Eduardo Braga'', he was a councilman of Manaus (1981–1985), state deputy of amazonas (1987–1991), federal deputy from amazonas (1991–1993), vice-mayor of Manaus (1993–1994) and mayor of Manaus (1994–1997). Parintins
Parintins is a municipality in the far east of the Amazonas state of Brazil. It is part of a microregion also named Parintins. The population for the entire municipality was 115,363 (IBGE 2020) and its area is 5,952 km2. The city is located on Tupinambarana island in the Amazon River.
