Federal Ministry Of Environment (Nigeria)
The Federal Ministry of Environment is a Ministry of the Federal Government of Nigeria formed in 1999 with the mandate to address environmental issues and also ensure effective coordination of all environment matters in the country. As part of its vision and mission, the ministry sets out to ensure the control of environmental issues and the protection of natural resources conservation. The ministry supervises desertification and deforestation activities, management of flood, erosion and pollution and also climate change and clean energy. Barr. Mohammed Hassan Abdullahi is the current Minister of Environment. Barr. Forestry Research Institute Of Nigeria
Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria (FRIN) is the Nigerian Government agency that is responsible for forestry research. It is headquartered in Jericho Ibadan. FRIN was established as the Federal Department of Forestry Research in 1954. The Institute’s Decree 35 of 1973 and order establishing Research Institute of 1977 changed the status of the Department to an institute. It is supervised by the Federal Ministry of Environment, but the only Research Institute of the Ministry. FRIN operates the Federal College of Forestry in Ibadan (FEDCOFOR). Great Green Wall (Africa)
The Great Green Wall or Great Green Wall of the Sahara and the Sahel (french: Grande Muraille Verte pour le Sahara et le Sahel; ) is a project led by the African Union, initially conceived as a way to combat desertification in the Sahel region and hold back expansion of the Sahara, by planting a wall of trees stretching across the entire Sahel. The modern green wall has since evolved into a program promoting water harvesting techniques, greenery protection and improving indigenous land use techniques, aimed at creating a mosaic of green and productive landscapes across North Africa. Niger Delta
The Niger Delta is the delta of the Niger River sitting directly on the Gulf of Guinea on the Atlantic Ocean in Nigeria. It is located within nine coastal southern Nigerian states, which include: all six states from the South South geopolitical zone, one state (Ondo) from South West geopolitical zone and two states (Abia and Imo) from South East geopolitical zone. Ogoni People
The Ogonis are a people in the Rivers South East senatorial district of Rivers State, in the Niger Delta region of southern Nigeria. They number just over 2 million and live in a homeland which they also refer to as Ogoniland. They share common oil-related environmental problems with the Ijaw people of the Niger Delta. The Ogoni rose to international attention after a massive public protest campaign against Shell Oil, led by the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP), which is also a member of the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO). Amina J
Aminatu (also Amina; died 1610) was a Hausa Muslim historical figure in the city-state Zazzau (now city of Zaria in Kaduna State), in what is now in the north-west region of Nigeria. She might have ruled in the mid-sixteenth century. A controversial figure whose existence has been questioned by some historians, her real biography has been somewhat obscured by subsequent legends and folk tales. Early life Amina was born in the middle of the sixteenth century CE to King Nikatau, the 22nd ruler of Zazzau, and Queen Bakwa Turunku (r. 1536–). She had a younger sister named Zaria for whom the modern city of Zaria (Kaduna State) was renamed by the British in the early twentieth century. John Ogar Odey (November 1, 1959 – 7 October 2018) was appointed Nigerian minister of information and communications in July 2007, and became minister for environment in December 2008 after President Umaru Yar'Adua reshuffled his cabinet. Halima Tayo Alao (born 6 December 1956) is a Nigerian architect and former Minister of Environment and Housing during President Umaru Yar'Adua's administration. Helen U. Esuene (born 23 November 1949) is a former Nigerian civil servant who was appointed Minister of State for Health, and later Minister of Environment and Housing in the Cabinet of President Olusegun Obasanjo between 2005 and 2007. National Oil Spill Detection And Response Agency
The National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) is an agency under the Federal Ministry of Environment in Nigeria. It was instituted by the National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria act of 2006 with the core mandate to oversee the implementation of the National Oil Spill Contingency Plan (NOSCP) which also incorporates the National Oil Spill Contingency System (NOSCS) for Nigeria. This is to ensure compliance to Nigeria's signatory to the International Convention on Oil Pollution Preparedness, Response and Cooperation ( OPRC, 1990).
