Federal Independent Democratic Alliance (FIDA) was a South African black conservative group set up in 1987. It was later established that it was a front organisation for Apartheid government. The East Rand is the urban eastern part of the Witwatersrand that is functionally merged with the Johannesburg conurbation in South Africa. John Gogotya
Ntsiza John Gogotya (born 2 July 1938) is a South African politician, businessman, and former minister who served in the National Assembly from 1994 to 2009. He represented the National Party (NP) until March 1999, when he defected to the African National Congress (ANC). He is known as the founder of the apartheid-era Federal Independent Democratic Alliance, a black moderate group which opposed majority rule in South Africa and which was later revealed to have been a client of military intelligence. Early life and career Gogotya was born on 2 July 1938. He was a businessman and Christian minister in the former Transvaal. Disinvestment From South Africa
Disinvestment (or divestment) from South Africa was first advocated in the 1960s, in protest against South Africa's system of apartheid, but was not implemented on a significant scale until the mid-1980s. The disinvestment campaign, after being realised in federal legislation enacted in 1986 by the United States, is credited by some as pressuring the South African Government to embark on negotiations ultimately leading to the dismantling of the apartheid system. United Nations campaigns In November 1962, the United Nations General Assembly passed Resolution 1761, a non-binding resolution establishing the United Nations Special Committee against Apartheid and called for imposing economic and other sanctions on South Africa. SADF
The South African Defence Force (SADF) (Afrikaans: ''Suid-Afrikaanse Weermag'') comprised the armed forces of South Africa from 1957 until 1994. State Security Council
The State Security Council (SSC) was formed in South Africa in 1972 to advise the government on the country's national policy and strategy concerning security, its implementation and determining security priorities. Its role changed through the prime ministerships of John Vorster and PW Botha (later State President), being little used during the formers and during the latter's, controlling all aspects of South African public's lives by becoming the Cabinet. During those years he would implement a Total National Strategy, Total Counter-revolutionary Strategy and finally in the mid-eighties, established the National Security Management System (NSMS).
