The Federal Correctional Institution, Safford (FCI Safford) is a low-security United States federal prison for male inmates in Arizona. It is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, a division of the United States Department of Justice. FCI Safford is located in southeastern Arizona, 7 miles south of the city of Safford, 127 miles northeast of Tucson, and 165 miles east of Phoenix. Inmate life All inmates are required to work in some capacity. Inmates are normally placed on a job assignment most compatible with his interest or job skill. Swift Trail Junction is a census-designated place (CDP) in Graham County, Arizona, United States. The population was 2,935 at the 2010 census, up from 2,195 in 2000. It is part of the Safford Micropolitan Statistical Area. Geography Swift Trail Junction is located in south-central Graham County at (32.734604, -109.714970) at the base of the Pinaleno Mountains. It is bordered to the north by the Cactus Flats CDP. The junction at the center of the CDP is between U.S. Route 191, which leads north to Safford, the county seat, and south to Interstate 10, and Arizona State Route 366, which leads southwest up into the heart of the Pinaleno Mountains. Otto Zehm (October31, 1969March20, 2006) was a man with a developmental disability from Spokane, Washington, who died on March 20, 2006, during an altercation with police officer Karl F. Thompson Jr. Zehm committed no crime, and on May 30, 2006, the Spokane County Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide. In 2012, the first of several officers on the scene at Zehm's death was convicted of excessive use of force and lying to investigators, and was sentenced to 51 months imprisonment. Lyle Jeffs is the brother of Warren Jeffs and a bishop in the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, commonly referred to as the FLDS Church. He has been referred to as his brother's "special counselor" in some church documents. Jeffs was the FLDS bishop for both Hildale, Utah, and Colorado City, Arizona. On September 12, 1997, six men robbed the Dunbar Armored facility on Mateo St. in Downtown Los Angeles, California of US$18.9 million (equivalent to $ million in ). The robbery was orchestrated by Allen Pace III, of Compton, with childhood friends Erik Damon Boyd, of Buena Park; Eugene Lamar Hill Jr., of Bellflower; Freddie Lynn McCrary Jr., of Arleta; Terry Wayne Brown Sr., of Los Angeles; and Thomas Lee Johnson, of Las Vegas, Nevada.
