The Federal Correctional Institution, Berlin (FCI Berlin) is a medium-security United States federal prison for male inmates in New Hampshire. It is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, a division of the United States Department of Justice. The facility also has an adjacent satellite prison camp housing minimum-security male inmates. FCI Berlin is located in Coos County, New Hampshire, Coos County in northern New Hampshire, north of Concord, New Hampshire, and northwest of Portland, Maine. Facility Construction of FCI Berlin was completed in the fall of 2010. It was built to hold 1,152 medium-security inmates and 128 minimum-security inmates at full capacity. The facility, which cost more than $270 million to build, was completed in November 2010, but did not get activation funds until about a year later, due to Congressional budget stalemates. Berlin ( ) is a city along the Androscoggin River in Coös County in northern New Hampshire, United States. It is the northernmost city in New Hampshire.
