Isaac Featherston
Isaac Earl Featherston (21 March 1813 – 19 June 1876) was a New Zealand politician, and was known for his advocacy for the establishment of New Zealand self-government, and the importance of the provincial governments. Early life and family He was born in Newcastle upon Tyne, England, on 21 March 1813 as son of Thomas Featherston and Jane Earl. Although he spent a significant amount of time playing sports, specifically football, as a youngster he was also quite academic and qualified in medicine at the University of Edinburgh in 1836, later at 10 December 1839 marrying Bethia Campbell Scott. He decide to leave England due to problems with tuberculosis in hope of a cure in New Zealand, leaving in December 1840. He arrived in Wellington in May 1841 on the New Zealand Company ship ''Olympus'' as surgeon-superintendent. Joseph Featherston
Joseph Featherston or Featherstone (July 22, 1843 – July 17, 1913) was a Canadian Liberal Party politician, livestock advocate and farmer. His career consisted of being a farmer and thoroughbred dealer in Toronto Township. He was president of the Dominion Live Stock Association in 1887 and 1st vice president of the Dominion Live Stock Insurance Company from 1887 – 1888. He also served as president of the Canadian Swine Breeders Association from 1890 – 1891. He served as a councillor, deputy reeve and reeve before entering federal politics. He was chosen as a Liberal candidate in Peel County to contest the general election for the House of Commons in 1891 against the sitting Conservative member William Armstrong McCulla. Featherston won that election with a 54 majority, in what has been described as a "keen and exciting contest." William Ralph Featherston
William Ralph Featherston (1848–1875) was a Christianity, Christian hymnwriter who wrote the poem My Jesus I Love Thee. He is believed to have written the poem at the age of either 12 or 16 years. In 1876 Adoniram Judson Gordon, Adoniram Gordon used the poem as lyrics for a hymn. Featherston died prior to his 27th birthday, and is not known to have written any other songs. Inspiration According to Tim Challies, :Not much is known about Featherston, except that he attended a Methodist church in Montreal, that he was young when he wrote the poem (12 or 16 years old), and that he died at just 27 years of age.
