Public Transport Victoria (PTV) is the brand name for public transport in the Australian state of Victoria, Australia, Victoria. Gowrie railway station is located on the Upfield line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the northern Melbourne suburb of Fawkner, and it opened on 16 October 1928 as Rail Motor Stopping Place 21. It closed on 5 May 1956, and reopened on 17 May 1965 as Gowrie. History Gowrie station originally opened as a Rail Motor Stopping Place on 16 October 1928, following the reinstatement of a passenger service on the Fawkner – Somerton line in March of that year. It closed when the passenger service ceased on 5 May 1956. On 17 May 1965, it opened in its current form, on what was by then the Upfield line. The name of the station comes from a grazing property named ''Gowrie Park'', which was named by the owner, who was originally from Gowrie, England. AEC Railmotor
The AEC railmotor was the first generally successful railmotor built for the Victorian Railways. 19 vehicles were constructed from 1922 to 1925, along with 24 trailer vehicles built to a similar design. Fawkner Crematorium And Memorial Park
Fawkner Memorial Park is located in the north-western Melbourne suburb of Fawkner, Victoria, Australia. It is the largest cemetery by land size in the state, and managed by Greater Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust. Merlynston Creek, a tributary of Merri Creek, is a major geographical feature running through both Fawkner Cemetery and the Northern Memorial Park. History In 1906, the Municipal Cemetery, Fawkner (as it was then called) opened to meet the needs of the north west. The cemetery was designed and run by Charles Heath, a surveyor and architect. The first burial took place on 10 December 1906. This was considered to be the unofficial opening of the cemetery. The funeral was conducted by John Allison from Sydney Road. The cemetery was adjacent to Fawkner railway station on the Upfield line, with special trains carrying the deceased to the cemetery from 1906 to 1939.
