''Father Voss'' (German:''Vater Voss'') is a 1925 German silent comedy film directed by Max Mack and starring Stewart Rome, Mary Odette and Lotte Stein. It was one of a number of popular comedies released by UFA alongside its more prestigious art films.Kreimeier p.101 In common with German practice at the time, two British stars were imported to add international appeal. Max Mack
Max Mack (1884–1973) was a German screenwriter, film producer and director during the silent era. He is particularly known for his 1913 film ''The Other''. He directed, and co-starred in, an early film adaptation of ''Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde'' in 1914, called ''Ein Seltsamer Fall'', written by Richard Oswald. During the 1910s, he directed nearly a hundred films in a variety of different genres.Elsaesser & Wedel p.205 Born as Moritz Myrthenzweig in Halberstadt, the Jewish Mack was later forced to emigrate to escape Nazism, and settled in the United Kingdom. Aruth Wartan (or ''Haruth Vartan'', hy, Հարութ Վարդան, 23 June 1880 – 14 April 1945) was a German film actor of Armenian origin who appeared in around ninety films during his career, generally in supporting roles. Life and career Born Arutjun Wartanian in Nakhichevan in the Russian Empire, he was of Armenian heritage. He graduated from high school in 1898 in Tbilisi, Georgia, and then briefly studied medicine in Kharkov (now in Ukraine). Around the turn of the century he briefly lived in Japan before relocating to St. Petersburg. During the Revolution of 1905 he moved to Saxony in Germany and studied at the Freiberg University of Mining and Technology. He also worked in Chile and Bolivia before returning to Germany and working as a mining engineer then moving into acting and performing on the stage and screen (since 1916).
