Father Sergius (1978 Film)
''Father Sergius'' (russian: Отец Сергий, Otets Sergiy) is a 1978 Soviet drama film directed by Igor Talankin based on the posthumously published 1911 Father Sergius, short story of the same name by Leo Tolstoy. Plot Prince Stepan Kasatsky, an officer, ardent, proud young man is a big admirer of the king. Kasatsky is about to get married, but at the last moment learns from the bride that she was the mistress of the emperor. The prince is deeply disappointed in secular life, he takes a monastic vow and leaves the capital. Faith in God was supposed to save his soul, but passions and worldly temptations do not leave Kasatsky. Father Sergius (Kasatsky's new name) leads the hermit's way of life, strictly adhering to order and pacifying the flesh. Deciding that this is not enough - he decides to leave the monastery. The All-Union Film Festival (russian: Всесоюзный кинофестиваль; tr.:''Vsesoyuznyy kinofestival'', also known as ВКФ; ''VKF'') was one of the most important film festivals of the Soviet Union. It was founded in 1958 and held regularly from 1964-1988. It was held annually from 1972 onwards, and bi-annually before that (before 1964, there were festivals in the years 1958, 1959 and 1960). Natalya Nikolayevna Fateyeva (russian: Наталья Николаевна Фатеева; born 23 December 1934) is a Soviet and Russian film actress and television presenter. She has appeared in more than fifty films since 1956. People's Artist of the RSFSR (1980). Biography Natalya was born and brought up in Kharkiv. Her father was a Soviet military officer, and her mother was manager of a local fashion shop. She studied acting at Kharkiv Acting College during the 1950s and was briefly married to a student classmate, but soon she divorced the student and moved to Moscow. Vladimir Sergeyevich Ivashov (russian: Влади́мир Серге́евич Ивашо́в; 28 August 1939 — 23 March 1995) was a Soviet and Russian actor. Biography He had a film career that spanned over 30 years. He is best known for his role as Pvt. Alyosha Skvortsov in '' Ballad of a Soldier'' which he starred in with Zhanna Prokhorenko in 1959. The film was awarded the Moscow International Film Festival award in 1960. It also won the Lenin Award. The film was kept in the film hall of The Kremlin to be shown to foreign guests. Eduard Konstantinovich Izotov (Russian: ''Эдуа́рд Константи́нович Изо́тов'') (11 November 1936 - 8 March 2003) was a Soviet film actor. Izotov was born in the Belarusian SSR near Surazh. His parents were Konstantin Iosifovich Izotov and Anna Iosifovna Izotova. He studied acting at the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography between 1954 and 1959, and in 1959 made his film debut in Sergei Kazakov's ''In the Silence of the Steppe'' (''V stepnoy tishi''). In 1964 he starred as the young hero Ivanushka in the fairy-tale film ''Jack Frost'', the role for which he is best known today. Izotov enjoyed a successful film career until 1983, when he was implicated in a scheme hatched by some fellow artists to finance a dacha by illegal means.
