Father Murphy (band)
Father Murphy was an avant garde modern psychedelic band, part of the subgenre defined Italian Occult Psychedelia by Antonio Ciarletta Biography The band emerged from the partnership of Federico Zanatta (freddie Murphy), Chiara Lee, and former drummer Vittorio Demarin. Their first album, eponymously titled, came out from Madcap Collective, one of whose founders was Zanatta. Father Murphy's second album ''Six Musicians Getting Unknown'' came out in 2005 also on Madcap Collective. The 2008 release of ''... and He told us to turn to the Sun'' (Agoo Records, USA, and Boring Machines, Italy) signaled a sudden change in the band's style and an increase in touring. Italian Occult Psychedelia
Italian occult psychedelia (IOP) is a subgenre of Italian psychedelic music characterized by obscure atmospheres. Italian occult psychedelia was coined by journalist Antonio Ciarletta in an article published by Italian music magazine ''Blow Up'', in January 2012. A festival called Thalassa has occurred in Rome since 2013 to celebrate Italian occult psychedelia bands. Characteristics The music form has emerged as a form of hauntology, an engine of reactivation of an Italian collective memory. The features of this shared past are related to the imagery of Italian genre films as cannibal movies, spaghetti westerns, Italian B horror movies and their soundtracks, and are related also to the violent, obscure and esoteric folklore so well outlined in the essays of Ernesto De Martino and in the documentaries of Luigi Di Gianni. Deerhoof
Deerhoof are an American musical group formed in San Francisco in 1994. They currently consist of founding drummer Greg Saunier, bassist and singer Satomi Matsuzaki, and guitarists John Dieterich and Ed Rodriguez. Beginning as an improvised noise punk band, Deerhoof became widely renowned and influential in the 2000s through self-produced albums. They have released eighteen studio albums since 1997. Their most recent album, ''Actually, You Can'', was released on 22 October 2021. Xiu Xiu
Xiu Xiu ( ) is an American experimental band, formed in 2002 by singer-songwriter Jamie Stewart in San Jose, California. Currently, the line-up consists of Stewart (the only constant member since formation) and Angela Seo. The band's name comes from the film '' Xiu Xiu: The Sent Down Girl'', which has influenced the sound of their music, according to Stewart. Xiu Xiu released their first two albums, ''Knife Play'' (2002) and ''A Promise'' (2003) on 5 Rue Christine to positive critical reception. Luca Dipierro
Luca Dipierro is an Italian artist, animator and writer born in Merano, in Northern Italy, and living in the United States. Dipierro's drawings have been used on numerous book and record covers. His cut-out animations, filmed in stop motion with marionettes made out of paper and old book cloth, have been called "a perfect balance of creepy and charming" ('' Huffington Post''). His work has been shown in theaters, galleries, and film festivals in the United States and Europe: notably the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, and the Portland Film Festival. Hollywood Theatre (Portland, Oregon)
The Hollywood Theatre is a historic movie theater in northeast Portland, Oregon, owned by a non-profit organization. It is the central historical point of the Hollywood District. The Theatre is located at 4122 NE Sandy Blvd, across the street from the first suburban Fred Meyer store, which is currently occupied by Rite Aid. The Hollywood Theatre was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983 and is considered to be a gem of Northeast Portland's historic culture and tradition. Commissioned by Jensen and Herberg, architects John Virginius Bennes and Harry A. Herzog designed the building in multiple styles including Spanish Colonial (exterior) and after the Baths of Caracalla and Bernini (interior). The Cinefamily was a non-profit cinematheque located in West Hollywood, California, at the historic Silent Movie Theatre. The Cinefamily's mission statement was to "reinvigorate the movie-going experience by fostering a spirit of community and a sense of discovery." Cinefamily followed a member-based ticketing system by which a tax-deductible donation provided universal access to all screenings and events. There was an individual ticket system in effect for non-members or those who did not make a pledge commitment. The Grand Illusion Cinema is the longest running independent cinema in the city of Seattle, Washington, and has become a landmark of the film community. Opened as The Movie House in 1970, the cinema became the city's first intimate arthouse and showcased foreign and revival films. Spectacle Theater
Spectacle Theater is a collectively run, independent movie theater that operates out of a small space in Williamsburg, Brooklyn in New York, United States. History Spectacle Theater opened in September 2010 at 124 S. 3rd Street in Brooklyn in a space that used to be a bodega. From its beginning, the theater was dedicated to showing rare, independent, or arthouse films (that cannot be found on DVD) at $5 per ticket. In 2013, Spectacle was awarded the "Best Weird Repertory Film Programming" by ''The Village Voice''. After a rent increase and lease-mandated improvements in 2015, the theater ran a Kickstarter campaign to keep operating out of the same space in central Williamsburg. The Millennium Film Workshop is a non-profit media arts center located in New York City. It is dedicated to the exhibition, study, and practice of avant-garde and experimental cinema. Jarboe
Jarboe Devereaux, known mononymously as Jarboe (), is an American singer and musician who came to prominence as a member of the New York City experimental rock band Swans in 1985. Jarboe and Michael Gira, the founder of Swans, were the two constant members of the group until it broke up in 1997. Although absent from the group's lineup when the band reformed in 2010, Jarboe contributed background vocals and voice collage for the band's 2012 album, ''The Seer''. She has released numerous solo albums and collaborations, many of which have been self-published. She also co-composed the soundtrack of the 2009 psychological horror game '' The Path''.
