Fatat El Masnaa
''Factory Girl'' ( ar, فتاة المصنع, ''Fataat El Masnaa'') is an Egyptian romantic drama film directed by Mohamed Khan. The film premiered at the Dubai International Film Festival in December 2013. It was selected as the Egyptian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 87th Academy Awards, but was not nominated. Plot 21-year-old Hiyam ( Yasmin Raeis) is an impoverished worker in a Cairo textile factory. When Salah (Hany Adel), the factory's new supervisor, becomes attracted to her and a pregnancy comes into play, Hiyam sees an opportunity to take control of her own fate and to move up in the world. But there is a very high price to pay. Egypt has submitted films for consideration for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film since 1958, when Youssef Chahine's ''Cairo Station'' became both the first African and the first Arab film to contend for the award. The Foreign Film award is handed out annually by the United States Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. The award was created for the 1956 Academy Awards, succeeding the non-competitive Honorary Academy Awards which were presented between 1947 and 1955 to the best foreign language films released in the United States. This is a list of submissions to the 87th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has invited the film industries of a number of countries to submit their best film for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film every year since the award was created in 1956. It is presented annually by the Academy to a feature-length film produced outside the United States with primarily non-English dialogue. The Foreign Language Film Award Committee oversees the process, reviewing all films submitted. For the 87th Academy Awards, held on 22 February 2015, a submitted motion picture must be released theatrically in its respective country between 1 October 2013 and 30 September 2014.
