Arthur Farrimond
Arthur Farrimond (30 September 1893 – 14 November 1978) was a noted athlete in the early part of the 20th century, eventually competing for Great Britain in the marathon in the 1924 Olympic Games. Early years Arthur Farrimond was born to James and Margaret Farrimond at Hill Street in Hindley, Lancashire. He won his first race at the age of seventeen at the Westhoughton town sports in 1910. He joined the Bolton club then Leigh Harriers in 1911. In February 1914, he became a medal winner in the Junior East-Lancashire cross country championships. First World War When the First World War broke out he enlisted in the 9th Royal Scots on 11 November 1914. While serving in France he won the French medallion in a 1½ mile race for his regiment. He reached the front line in January 1915 where he was wounded in the knee; he was again wounded in the stomach in August 1916 as a result of a bayonet charge, and made a full recovery while in Merry Flatts Hospital, Govan, in Glasgow. ... Bill Farrimond
William Farrimond (23 May 1903 – 15 November 1979) was an English cricketer who played in four Test matches from 1931 to 1935. He was born and died at Westhoughton, Lancashire. Bill Farrimond was widely regarded in the late 1920s and across the 1930s as the second-best wicketkeeper in English first-class cricket, but the man regarded as the best was his Lancashire colleague George Duckworth – and for many years both of them were kept out of the England team by Leslie Ames, who was a much better batsman. The result was that Farrimond played only a handful of county matches each season from 1925 to 1937 before, on the retirement of Duckworth, he finally played two full seasons in 1938 and 1939. Despite being second-string wicketkeeper at Lancashire, Farrimond played four Tests. In 1930–31, he was picked as second wicketkeeper to Duckworth on the tour to the South Africa, and played in two matches when Duckworth was injured. Richard Farrimond
Richard Alfred Farrimond (born 15 September 1947) is a British engineer, former army officer and astronaut. He is currently a history PhD student at King's College London. Born in Birkenhead (Cheshire), he was educated Clifton College. He studied at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst and received a BSc in telecommunications at the Royal Military College of Science, Shrivenham in 1972. At the end of his military career he was Lieutenant-Colonel in the Royal Corps of Signals of the British Army. After leaving the Army, he worked for British Aerospace, later for Matra Marconi Space and finally with Astrium. On retirement he studied at King's College London for a history master's degree and his dissertation on 'Britain and Human Space Flight' was published.
