Farrer Park MRT Station
Farrer Park MRT station is an underground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station along the North East line, located on the boundary of Kallang and Rochor planning areas, Singapore. It is one of the two stations that serve the ethnic district of Little India. The station sits underneath the Connexion building, an integrated hospital (Farrer Park Hospital) and hotel complex (One Farrer Hotel). Farrer Park was named after John Farrer, who was President of the Municipal Commissioners from 1919 to 1931. History To accommodate the construction of the station, the formerly straight Race Course Road was broken up to its current two-part alignment, with both ends linked by junctions with Rangoon Road. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) is an uniformed organisation in Singapore under the Ministry of Home Affairs that provides emergency services such as firefighting, technical rescue, and emergency medical services, and coordinates national civil defence programme. Poh Siew Wah
Poh Siew Wah is a Singaporean artist known for his powerful Abstract Expressionistic styled paintings themed to Singapore and Southeast Asian landscapes. His ''Rhythmic Exuberance'' series of paintings also form the main theme for the interiors of the Farrer Park MRT station. Born in Singapore, Poh first received his art education in Gan Eng Seng Secondary School where he was taught by his teachers, artist S. Namasivayam and Yeong Ah Soo, both encouraging the young Poh to experiment with various art mediums. In 1967, Poh entered the Teacher's Training College, majoring in art education. Even then, this earnestness to experiment in his art-making followed him through College, which opened up his mind to newer techniques and ideas in art. Farrer Park is a subzone of the Rochor planning area in the Central Region of Singapore, bounded by Serangoon Road, Rangoon Road, Race Course Road, Northumberland Road, Tekka Lane and Bukit Timah Road. This article is about the Farrer Park subzone, part of the Rochor planning area as defined by the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA). Historically, the name "Farrer Park" referred to an open field situated to the west of this subzone. This open field is now commonly known as "Farrer Park Field" and is located within Kallang planning area. Etymology Farrer Park and Farrer Road were named after R. J. Farrer (died 1956), who was Municipal Assessor and later President of the Municipal Commissioners in the 1920s. Mustafa Centre is the shopping mall on Syed Alwi Road in the cultural district of Little India, within the planning area of Kallang. Within a walking distance from Farrer Park station on the North East line, Mustafa Centre is a retail hub attracting many shoppers with its wide variety of products and services. Hougang MRT Station
Hougang MRT station is an underground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the North East line (NEL) in the Hougang planning area in Singapore. Located within the Hougang Town Centre, the station is directly connected to Hougang Central Bus Interchange and sits underneath that bus interchange. Serangoon MRT station is an underground Mass Rapid Transit (Singapore), Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) interchange station on the North East MRT line, North East (NEL) and Circle MRT line, Circle (CCL) lines. Situated in Serangoon, Singapore along Upper Serangoon Road and Serangoon Central, the station is integrated with the Nex, Singapore, Nex shopping complex and the Serangoon Bus Interchange. The station is near the Serangoon Neighbourhood Police Centre and Braddell Heights Community Hub and serves various residential estates in the area. Preliminary studies for the NEL in the late 1980s included a tentative line alignment serving the Serangoon area. Chinatown MRT Station
Chinatown MRT station is an underground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) interchange station on the North East (NEL) and Downtown (DTL) lines in Outram, Singapore. It serves the ethnic enclave of Chinatown. Situated at the junction of Eu Tong Sen Street, New Bridge Road and Upper Cross Street, the station is near several landmarks, including the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, Masjid Jamae (Chulia), Chinatown Point and People's Park Complex. First announced as People's Park MRT station in March 1996, the NEL station was one of the most challenging projects undertaken during that line's construction.
