William Farquhar
William Farquhar ( ; 26 February 1774 – 11 May 1839) was a Scottish colonial administrator employed by the East India Company, who served as the sixth Resident of Malacca between 1813 and 1818, and the first Resident of Singapore between 1819 and 1823. History Early life Farquhar was born in Newhall, Aberdeenshire, near Aberdeen in 1774 as the youngest child of Robert Farquhar and Agnes Morrison, his father's second wife. His brother, Arthur, two years his senior, rose to the rank of rear admiral in the Royal Navy, and received a knighthood for his distinguished services during the Napoleonic Wars. Shortly after arriving in Madras on 19 June 1791, Farquhar joined the East India Company as a cadet at the age of 17. Ryan Alan Robert Farquhar (born 2 February 1976, Dungannon, Northern Ireland) is a professional motorcycle racer who primarily competes in road racing. Daniel Andres Farquhar ( ; born February 17, 1987) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He played for the Toronto Blue Jays, Seattle Mariners, Tampa Bay Rays and Chicago White Sox before retiring on July 31, 2019. Amateur career Farquhar attended Archbishop Edward A. McCarthy High School in Southwest Ranches, Florida, where he played for the school's baseball team as a pitcher and outfielder. He batted .436 as a sophomore. Marilyn Farquhar
Marilyn Gist Farquhar (July 11, 1928 – November 23, 2019) was a pathologist and cellular biologist, Professor of Cellular and Molecular Medicine and Pathology, as well as the chair of the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine, who previously worked at Yale University from 1973 to 1990. She has won the E. B. Wilson Medal and the FASEB Excellence in Science Award. She was married to Nobel Laureate George Emil Palade from 1970 to his death in 2008. Horace Brand Farquhar, 1st Earl Farquhar, (19 May 1844 – 30 August 1923) was a British financier, courtier and Conservative politician. Background Townsend-Farquhar was born at Goldings near Hertford, the fifth of six sons of Sir Minto Townsend-Farquhar, 2nd Baronet, by his wife Erica Mackay, the only (but illegitimate) daughter of Eric Mackay, 7th Lord Reay. Helen Laura Farquhar (1859 – 1953) was a British numismatist and a founder member of the British Numismatic Society in 1903. Farquhar served on the British Numismatic Society Council many times from 1910-1946 and was Vice-President at various times 1912-1953. Farquhar specialised in British numismatics, especially House of Stuart, Stuart portraiture and the Touch pieces associated with Tuberculous cervical lymphadenitis, the King's Evil (scrofula). Henry Hallowell Farquhar (July 13, 1884 – December 15, 1968) was an American academic, writer, and businessman. Attending the University of Michigan, he excelled in basketball and played on the school's first team. He was on the faculty at Harvard Business School in the 1910s and 1920s and published extensively in the area of factory and industrial management. He was a proponent of Frederick Taylor's principles of scientific management. Early years Farquhar was born in Maryland in July 1884. He attended the University of Michigan. James A. Farquhar was a master mariner and captain in the late 19th and early 20th century Nova Scotia known for his success in sail, steam, sealing and salvage. Early life and family Farquhar was born on October 12, 1842 to James Farquhar and Catherine Farquhar (née Bayers). In August 1849, the Farquhar family moved to Sable island to work the Eastern Station there after the family had lost their saw-mill, grist-mill and small farm due to debt. James attended lessons on the island and he learned to read and write as well as ride horses during his childhood.
