Abu Moussa
Abu Musa ( fa, ابوموسی , , ar, أبو موسى) is a island in the eastern Persian Gulf near the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz. Due to the depth of sea, oil tankers and big ships have to pass between Abu Musa and Greater and Lesser Tunbs; this makes these islands some of the most strategic points in the Persian Gulf. The island is administered by Iran as part of its province of Hormozgan, but is also claimed by the United Arab Emirates as a territory of the emirate of Sharjah. Name Iranian Abu Musa's inhabitants call it "Gap-sabzu" ( fa, گپ‌سبزو), which in Persian means "the great green place." On old Persian maps, the island is called: * "Boum-Ouw" ( fa, بوم‌اوو, links=no) or "Boum-Ouf" ( fa, بوم‌اوف, links=no) which in Persian means "Waterland". * "Boum-Souz" ( fa, بوم‌سوز, links=no) or "Boum-Sou"/"Boum-Souw" ( fa, بوم‌سو, links=no) or "Gap-Sabzou" ( fa, گپ‌سبزو, links=no) which in Persian means "Green Land". ...

Bandar Abbas
Bandar Abbas or Bandar-e ‘Abbās ( fa, , , ), is a port city and capital of Hormozgān Province on the southern coast of Iran, on the Persian Gulf. The city occupies a strategic position on the narrow Strait of Hormuz (just across from Musandam Governorate, Oman), and it is the location of the main base of the Iranian Navy. Bandar Abbas is also the capital and largest city of Bandar Abbas County. At the 2016 census, its population was 526,648. Etymology Bandar Abbas has always been a port, and as such its various names have all reflected this function. The most common name over time, Gameroon, traditionally derived from Turkish ''gümrük'', "customhouse" (from Late Greek ''kommerkion'', from Latin ''commercium'', "commerce"), but is now speculated to come from Persian ''kamrūn'', "shrimp" (in Portuguese: ''camarão'', similar to the former Portuguese name). Its current name derives from that of Abbas the Great () paired with ''bandar'' - "port", meaning "Port of Abbas" ...

The white-eared bulbul is considered to belong to a superspecies along with the Himalayan bulbul, white-spectacled bulbul, African red-eyed bulbul, Cape bulbul, and the common bulbul. Formerly, some authorities considered the white-eared bulbul to be a subspecies of the Himalayan Bulbul. Subspecies Two subspecies are recognized: * Arabian white-cheeked bulbul (''P. l. mesopotamia'') - Ticehurst, 1918: Found in north-eastern Arabia, southern Iraq and south-western Iran * ''P. l. leucotis'' - (Gould, 1836): Found in southern Iran, southern Afghanistan, Pakistan and north-western India Description and vocalisations The white-eared bulbul is rotund in appearance, and has a brownish-grey body. Hoopoe
Hoopoes () are colourful birds found across Africa, Asia, and Europe, notable for their distinctive "crown" of feathers. Three living and one extinct species are recognized, though for many years all of the extant species were lumped as a single species—''Upupa epops''. In fact, some taxonomists still consider all three species conspecific. Some authorities also keep the African and Eurasian hoopoe together but split the Madagascar hoopoe. The Eurasian hoopoe is common in its range and has a large population, so it is evaluated as Least Concern on The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. However, their numbers are declining in Western Europe. Conversely, the hoopoe has been increasing in numbers at the tip of the South Sinai, Sharm el-Sheikh. There are dozens of nesting pairs that remain resident all year round. Taxonomy The genus ''Upupa'' was introduced in 1758 by the Swedish naturalist Carl Linnaeus in the tenth edition of his ''Systema Naturae''. The type species is the ...

Laughing Dove
The laughing dove (''Spilopelia senegalensis'') is a small pigeon that is a resident breeder in Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, and Western Australia where it has established itself in the wild after being released from Perth Zoo in 1898. This small long-tailed dove is found in dry scrub and semi-desert habitats where pairs can often be seen feeding on the ground. It is closely related to the spotted dove (''Spilopelia chinensis'') which is distinguished by a white and black chequered necklace. Other names include laughing turtle dove, palm dove and Senegal dove while in Asia the name of the little brown dove is often used. Taxonomy In 1760 the French zoologist Mathurin Jacques Brisson included a description of the laughing dove in his six volume ''Ornithologie'' based on a specimen collected in Senegal. He used the French name ''La tourterelle à gorge tachetée du Sénégal'' and the Latin ''Tutur gutture maculato senegalensis''. The two stars (**) at the start of the secti ...

Wagtails
Wagtails are a group of passerine birds that form the genus ''Motacilla'' in the family Motacillidae. The forest wagtail belongs to the monotypic genus ''Dendronanthus'' which is closely related to ''Motacilla'' and sometimes included therein. The common name and genus names are derived from their characteristic tail pumping behaviour. Together with the pipits and longclaws they form the family Motacillidae. The willie wagtail (''Rhipidura leucophrys'') of Australia is an unrelated bird similar in coloration and shape to the Japanese wagtail. It belongs to the fantails. Taxonomy The genus ''Motacilla'' was introduced by the Swedish naturalist Carl Linnaeus in 1758 in the tenth edition of his ''Systema Naturae''. The type species is the white wagtail. ''Motacilla'' is the Latin name for the pied wagtail; although actually a diminutive of ''motare'', "to move about", from medieval times it led to the misunderstanding of ''cilla'' as "tail". At first glance, the wagtails appea ...

Bird Watching
Birdwatching, or birding, is the observing of birds, either as a recreational activity or as a form of citizen science. A birdwatcher may observe by using their naked eye, by using a visual enhancement device like binoculars or a telescope, by listening for bird sounds, or by watching public webcams. Most birdwatchers pursue this activity for recreational or social reasons, unlike ornithologists, who engage in the study of birds using formal scientific methods. Birding, birdwatching, and twitching The first recorded use of the term ''birdwatcher'' was in 1901 by Edmund Selous; ''bird'' was introduced as a verb in 1918. The term ''birding'' was also used for the practice of ''fowling'' or hunting with firearms as in Shakespeare's '' The Merry Wives of Windsor'' (1602): "She laments sir... her husband goes this morning a-birding." The terms ''birding'' and ''birdwatching'' are today used by some interchangeably, although some participants prefer ''birding'', partly because i ...
