Farmageddon (comic Strip)
''Farmageddon'' started life in 1991 as a comic strip called ''The Funny Farm'' and was created by Niel Bushnell and Gordon Fraser. Bushnell and Fraser were friends from school and both wanted careers as comic artists. They began to develop an idea for a newspaper comic strip based around a farm. Initially inspired by American comic strips such as ''Calvin and Hobbes'' and ''Garfield'', the comic soon found its own blend of humour. ''The Funny Farm'' ''The Funny Farm'' was published in the ''Hartlepool Mail'' from 1992 until 1994. It was also published in a short lived Sunday paper called the ''News & Echo''. In 1994 a new editor joined the ''Hartlepool Mail'' who didn't like ''The Funny Farm'' and cancelled its run. The demise of the comic strip coincided with Niel moving to London to pursue a career in animation. In 1997 Niel and Gordon began to develop ''The Funny Farm'' as an animated series. Niel Bushnell
Niel Bushnell (born 1970) is an English writer and artist from Hartlepool. He is the author of the science fiction series, The Arkship Saga, and children's fantasy novels Sorrowline and Timesmith, the first two books in The Timesmith Chronicles series, published in the UK by Andersen Press. He is the co-founder of animation studio Qurios Entertainment. Life and career Niel Bushnell was born in Hartlepool, England. Bushnell collaborated with school friend, Gordon Fraser, to create the newspaper comic strip, ''The Funny Farm'', later retitled Farmageddon. The strip ran for 18 months in the Hartlepool Mail. Later Bushnell developed ''Farmageddon'' as an animated project. Calvin And Hobbes
''Calvin and Hobbes'' is a daily American comic strip created by cartoonist Bill Watterson that was syndicated from November 18, 1985, to December 31, 1995. Commonly cited as "the last great newspaper comic", ''Calvin and Hobbes'' has enjoyed broad and enduring popularity, influence, and academic and philosophical interest. ''Calvin and Hobbes'' follows the humorous antics of the title characters: Calvin, a precocious, mischievous, and adventurous six-year-old boy; and Hobbes, his sardonic stuffed tiger. Garfield
''Garfield'' is an American comic strip created by Jim Davis. Originally published locally as ''Jon'' in 1976, then in nationwide syndication from 1978 as ''Garfield'', it chronicles the life of the title character Garfield the cat, his human owner Jon Arbuckle, and Odie the dog. As of 2013, it was syndicated in roughly 2,580 newspapers and journals, and held the Guinness World Record for being the world's most widely syndicated comic strip. Though its setting is rarely mentioned in print, ''Garfield'' takes place in Jim Davis' hometown of Muncie, Indiana, according to the television special ''Happy Birthday, Garfield''. Common themes in the strip include Garfield's laziness, obsessive eating, love of coffee and lasagna, disdain of Mondays, and diets. The ''Hartlepool Mail'' is a newspaper serving Hartlepool, England and the surrounding area. As of December 2021, it has an average daily circulation of 1,570. History The paper was founded in Hartlepool in 1877 as ''The Northern Daily Mail'' and continued to be printed in the town until August 2006, when the printing staff were told they would be made redundant on 30 September. The newspaper's owners, Johnston Press, decided it was in the interests of their business to move printing to Sunderland. On 16 July 2012, most of the reporting and sports staff moved to the headquarters of the Sunderland Echo. It was also decided later that year, that the printing plant in Sunderland would close with printing of the paper moving to Dinnington, near Sheffield as a result. Qurios Entertainment was an animation and visual effects production studio. Founded in 2002 by Niel Bushnell and his wife Diane, the company was originally based in Hartlepool, England, relocating to Newcastle upon Tyne in February 2009. As well as producing animation for commercials ''Qurios'' has a string of TV credits, including Hyperdrive, Spooks, Tracy Beaker Returns and The Dumping Ground. In 2010 ''Qurios'' merged with ''Dene Films'', a Newcastle upon Tyne based live action production company. In 2013 they animated the missing episodes of the ''Doctor Who'' serial ''The Ice Warriors'' for its DVD release. In 2013 both Qurios and Dene Films closed.
