Kazi Sirajul Islam
Kazi Sirajul Islam is a Bangladesh Awami League politician and a former Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Faridpur-1 constituency from 1996 until 2005. Career Islam was elected to parliament from Faridpur-1 as a Bangladesh Awami League candidate in 1996 and 2001 general elections. On 3 June 2005, he joined the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). According to article 70 of the Constitution of Bangladesh, Faridpur-1 then fell vacant and by-elections were called. BNP originally nominated Islam for the by-election but later changed the nomination to Shah Muhammad Abu Zafar before the election. Shah Muhammad Abu Zafar is a Bangladesh Nationalist Party politician and a 3-term Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Faridpur-1 constituency. Career Zafar joined Bangladesh Nationalist Party in 2003 from Jatiya Party. He decided to contest the 30 August 2005 Faridpur-1 by election as an independent candidate after failing to get the Bangladesh Nationalist Party nomination. 2018 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 30 December 2018 to elect 300 directly-elected members of the Jatiya Sangsad. The result was a landslide victory for the Awami League led by Sheikh Hasina. According to political scientist Ali Riaz, the elections were not free and fair. The BBC News reported that they were marred by violence and allegations of vote rigging. Opposition leader Kamal Hossain rejected the results, calling it "farcical" and demanding fresh elections to be held under a neutral government. Boalmari ( bn, বোয়ালমারী) is an upazila (sub-district) of Faridpur District in central Bangladesh, located in the Dhaka Division. It is named after its headquarters, the town of Boalmari. Jatiya Sangsad
The Jatiya Sangsad ( bn, জাতীয় সংসদ, lit=National Parliament, translit=Jatiyô Sôngsôd), often referred to simply as the ''Sangsad'' or JS and also known as the House of the Nation, is the supreme legislative body of Bangladesh. The current parliament of Bangladesh contains 350 seats, including 50 seats reserved exclusively for women. Elected occupants are called Member of Parliament, or MP. The 11th National Parliamentary Election was held on 30 December 2018. Elections to the body are held every five years, unless a parliament is dissolved earlier by the President of Bangladesh. 2008 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 29 December 2008. The two main parties in the election were the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), led by Khaleda Zia, and the Bangladesh Awami League Party, led by Sheikh Hasina. The Bangladesh Awami League Party formed a fourteen-party Grand Alliance including Ershad's Jatiya Party, while the BNP formed a four-party alliance which included the Islamist party Jamaat-e-Islami. The election was originally scheduled for January 2007, but it was postponed by a military-controlled caretaker government for an extended period of time. The elections resulted in a landslide victory for the Awami League-led grand alliance, which won 263 seats out 300. 2014 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 5 January 2014, in accordance with the constitutional requirement that elections must take place within the 90-day period before the expiration of the term of the Jatiya Sangshad on 24 January 2014. The elections were not free and fair. They were preceded by a government crackdown on the opposition, with Bangladesh Nationalist Party and Opposition leader Khaleda Zia was put under house arrest. The Bangladesh Election Commission ( bn, বাংলাদেশ নির্বাচন কমিশন), abbreviated and publicly referred to as EC, is an independent constitutional body that operates the legal functions of election laws in Bangladesh.
