Farhan Zaidi
Farhan Zaidi (born November 11, 1976) is a Canadian-American baseball executive who is currently the President of Baseball Operations for the San Francisco Giants of Major League Baseball. Zaidi is one of two Muslim executives in Major League Baseball. He was the first Muslim and first Pakistani-American general manager in Major League Baseball. Early life Zaidi was born on November 11, 1976 in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, to a family of Pakistani ancestry. His parents, Sadiq and Anjum, raised four children: Zeeshan, Farhan, Noor, and Jaffer. Zaidi grew up in the Philippines after his family moved to Manila when he was four years old. He has a Bachelor of Science degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in economics from the University of California, Berkeley. Sabermetrics, or originally SABRmetrics, is the empirical analysis of baseball, especially baseball statistics that measure in-game activity. Sabermetricians collect and summarize the relevant data from this in-game activity to answer specific questions. The term is derived from the acronym SABR, which stands for the Society for American Baseball Research, founded in 1971. The term "sabermetrics" was coined by Bill James, who is one of its pioneers and is often considered its most prominent advocate and public face. Jesse Barfield
Jesse Lee Barfield (born October 29, 1959) is an American former professional baseball player and coach. He played in Major League Baseball as an right fielder from 1981 to 1992 for the Toronto Blue Jays and the New York Yankees. A two-time Gold Glove Award winner, Barfield was a strong defensive player featuring an impressive throwing arm that allowed him to lead the American League (AL) five times in outfielder assists. He ended his playing career ranked second only to Baseball Hall of Fame member, Chuck Klein, in outfielder assists per 1,000 innings. He was also provided strong offense, winning a Silver Slugger Award and leading the American League in home runs in 1986, the same year he was named to the American League All-Star team. Peter Putila is an American baseball executive. He is the general manager of the San Francisco Giants of Major League Baseball. Career Putila is a native of Carmichaels, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Carmichaels High School in 2007, after playing for the school's baseball team for four years. He enrolled at West Virginia University, where he was a student manager for the West Virginia Mountaineers baseball team and earned a degree in sport management. Scott Harris is an American baseball executive. He is the president of baseball operations of the Detroit Tigers of Major League Baseball, after having previously served as general manager of the San Francisco Giants. Early life and education Harris is from Redwood City, California. He is the son of two doctors, one a urologist and one an OB-GYN, and has one brother, Chris, and one sister, K.C.
