Fargo Moorhead Derby Girls
The Fargo Moorhead Derby Girls (FMDG) is a roller derby league based in Fargo, North Dakota. Launched in 2008 by Sara Rundlett, the league currently consists of two teams, Northern Pains and Furies, who compete against other cities. The league began with two home teams, Fighting Suzies and Monkey Wenches, and one travel team, Northern Pains. In the Summer of 2010, in response to increased league membership, FMDG expanded to four home teams: Fighting Suzies, Monkey Wenches, Haute Dishes and BattleScar Galactica, and two travel teams: Northern Pains and Furies. Due to decreased membership all home teams were suspended in 2012, just prior to their fourth season. It held its first bout in November, drawing more than 1,700 fans. In October 2012, FMDG's former treasurer was convicted of a Class C felony and sentenced to restitution of $10,000, 25 days in jail and one year probation. Women's Flat Track Derby Association
The Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) is the international governing body for the sport of women's flat track roller derby, and association of leagues around the world. The organization was founded in April 2004 as the United Leagues Coalition (ULC), but was renamed in November 2005. It is registered in Raleigh, North Carolina as a 501(c)(6) business league organization, a type of nonprofit organization. The primary owners, managers, and operators of each member league and of the association are women skaters, although this does not preclude any particular business structure (leagues don't have to be legally incorporated or internally egalitarian). Roller derby is a roller skating contact sport played by two teams of fifteen members. Roller derby is played by approximately 1,250 amateur leagues worldwide, mostly in the United States. Game play consists of a series of short scrimmages (jams) in which both teams designate a jammer (who uniquely wears a star on the helmet) and four blockers to skate counter-clockwise around a track. Women's Flat Track Derby Association Apprentice
The Women's Flat Track Derby Association Apprentice is the program affiliate of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). In operation from 2009 until early 2019, the Apprentice Program served to onboard new member leagues into the WFTDA. In February 2019, the WFTDA announced it was retiring the program, to be replaced with a new "New Member Program" in the near future.
