Farah Louis
Farah N. Louis (born September 25, 1983) is an American politician. She is a member of the Democratic Party and is a member of the New York City Council for the 45th district, which includes the Brooklyn neighborhoods of East Flatbush, Flatbush, Flatlands, Marine Park, and Midwood. Early life and education Both of Louis's parents immigrated from Haiti, her mother worked in the healthcare field and her father as a law enforcement professional and later a yellow cab driver. Louis attended Midwood High School, Long Island University for a BA in English, and received an MPA from New York University's Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service. The New York City Council is the lawmaking body of New York City. It has 51 members from 51 council districts throughout the five Borough (New York City), boroughs. The council serves as a check against the Mayor of New York City, mayor in a mayor-council government model, the performance of city agencies land use decisions, and legislating on a variety of other issues. It also has sole responsibility for approving the city budget.
