Fant (film)
''Fant'' (The Gypsy) is a Norwegian film from 1937 based on Gabriel Scott's 1928 novel of the same name. The film was directed by Tancred Ibsen, who was also wrote the script for the film. The film premiered on December 26, 1937 at the Eldorado Cinema in Oslo. The film is about a young orphaned girl Josefa (played by Sonja Wigert), who escapes from her wicked uncle (played by Einar Tveito) and eventually falls in love with a Roma named Fændrik (played by Alfred Maurstad). Fændrik belongs to a seafaring group of Roma that travel around Southern Norway, and in many ways the film is typical of the contemporary view of the Roma people and their culture. Guri Stormoen, who played the role of Mathilde, said that during the production her opponent Alfred Maurstad had stabbed her in the stomach with a knife during the filming of a fight scene, and that director Ibsen had ordered the actors to "fight seriously, otherwise it would look idiotic, of course. Tancred Ibsen
Tancred Ibsen (11 July 1893 – 4 December 1978) was a Norwegian military officer, aviator, film director and screenwriter. Background Ibsen was the son of Sigurd Ibsen and Bergljot Bjørnson. He was the grandson of both Henrik Ibsen and Nobel laureate Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson. He married dancer and actress Lillebil Ibsen in 1919, and remained married to her until his death in 1978. His son Tancred Ibsen, Jr. (1921–2015) was a Norwegian diplomat. Aviation career In 1917, Tancred Ibsen started pilot training at Kjeller Airport and began his career in the Norwegian Army Air Service. He started the first civilian active airplane company, ''A/S Aero'' in 1920, financed by his uncle, businessman Einar Bjørnson, and two shipowners. The company successfully operated demonstration, advertising, and limited mail flights with Ibsen as the head pilot. Marit Halset
Marit Halset (May 18, 1912 – March 22, 1986) was a Norwegian actress. She performed roles in theater, radio theater, and film. Halset was engaged with the National Theater in Oslo from 1933 to 1948. She debuted as the young girl Hazel Niles in Eugene O'Neill's play ''Mourning Becomes Electra'' in the spring of 1933. There she performed together with Johanne Dybwad, August Oddvar, and Ingolf Schanche. Later, she performed significant roles as sensitive young girls, and she ended her time at the National Theater by playing Leonora in Ludvig Holberg's '' The Fidget'' in 1948. In 1948 she moved to the New Theater, where she remained until 1967. Halset also performed regularly in NRK's Radio Theater and Television Theater, in addition to having a number of film roles. Leif Sinding (19 November 1895 – 13 May 1985) was a Norwegian film director and journalist. He worked for the newspapers ''Verdens Gang'', ''Aftenposten'', and ''Morgenbladet''. Among his silent films are ''Himmeluret'' from 1925, based on Gabriel Scott's comedy, and ''Fjeldeventyret'' from 1926. He directed the film ''Bra mennesker'' (1937), based on a play by Oskar Braaten, and the films ''De vergeløse'' (1939) and ''Tante Pose'' (1940), both based on novels by Gabriel Scott. Aagot Didriksen
Aagot Didriksen (3 July 1874 – 19 March 1968) was a Norwegian theatre and film actress of the 1930s. She was born in Kristiansand, Norway. She debuted on 24 October 1899 in the Royal Danish Theatre of Copenhagen and made over 150 appearances on stage until 1942 when she retired. Gudrun Tvinde
Gudrun ( ; non, Guðrún) or Kriemhild ( ; gmh, Kriemhilt) is the wife of Sigurd/Siegfried and a major figure in Germanic heroic legend and literature. She is believed to have her origins in Ildico, last wife of Attila the Hun, and two queens of the Merovingian dynasty, Brunhilda of Austrasia and Fredegund. In both the Continental (German) and Scandinavian traditions, Gudrun/Kriemhild is the sister of the Burgundian king Gunther/Gunnar and marries the hero Siegfried/Sigurd. Eugen Skjønberg
Conrad Eugen Skjønberg (March 27, 1889 – July 25, 1971) was a Norwegian actor. Eugen Skjønberg was married to the actress Henny Skjønberg. They resided at Ramstad. He was the father of Per Skjønberg, Pål Skjønberg, and Espen Skjønberg, and the grandfather of Hennika Skjønberg, Siv Skjønberg, and Jo Skjønberg, all of whom were actors and actresses. Skjønberg started his career in the banking industry in Kragerø and Skien, but in his twenties he was discovered in the amateur theater by a dance teacher, who recommended him to Alma Fahlstrøm in 1913. Fahlstrøm referred him to Sophie Reimers for training, as well as for singing lessons with Maja Flagstad. Abigael Heber Magnussøn
Abigael Heber Magnussøn (May 30, 1884 – June 30, 1968) was a Norwegian actress. She was the daughter of the parish priest Andreas Emil Hansen and Anna Judith Sørensen. She married the actor Sigurd Magnussøn on August 15, 1912. She became a university student in 1904. During the 1909/10 season, she was a student at the National Theatre in Kristiania (now Oslo). When she finished her acting education, she was first engaged with the National Theater in Bergen from 1911 to 1912, and then with the Tivoli Theater in Kristiania from 1912 to 1913. She returned to the National Theatre in Oslo from 1915 to 1919, and was then with the experimental Intimteatret theater from 1921 to 1922. After performing at Chat Noir from 1922 to 1924, she moved to Trondheim and was engaged with the Trondhein National Theater from 1924 to 1925. She performed at various theaters after that. Gøril Havrevold, (née Egede-Nissen, 11 July 1914 – 17 March 1992) was a Norwegian stage and film actress. Biography She was born in Stavanger, Norway; the daughter of Adam Egede-Nissen (1868–1953) and Georga Wilhelma Ellertsen (1871–1959). she was the youngest of eleven siblings, seven of whom were actors, most of them at the Nationaltheatret. Espen Skjønberg
Espen Henrik Skjønberg (7 April 1924 – 26 August 2022) was a Norwegian actor of stage, screen, and television. Career Skjønberg made his first movie appearances as a child in the 1932 film ''En glad gutt'' and in the 1937 Norwegian classic ''Fant'', in which his mother also appeared. His stage debut came reciting poetry at the Norwegian theatre Chat Noir in 1945. He joined the Norwegian National Theatre in 1946 and became one of its most prominent figures, appearing in 64 different roles in the next 60 years. As late as 2006 he co-starred with Toralv Maurstad (who also appeared in ''Fant'') in an adaptation of '' Waiting for Godot''.
