Fanling Environmental Resource Centre
Fanling Environmental Resource Centre () was a resource center under the management of the Environmental Protection Department of the Government of Hong Kong. It was located in Wo Mun Street, Luen Wo Hui, Fanling, New Territories, Hong Kong. This was the third Environmental Resource Centre managed by the Environmental Protection Department. It was also the biggest of the three Centres. There was an exhibition hall, a library, a conference room and a lecture room in the Resource Centre. Fanling Environmental Resource Centre was closed in 2020. Environmental Protection Department (EPD) is a department of Hong Kong Government concerning the issues of environmental protection in Hong Kong.The EPD is responsible for developing policies covering environmental protection, nature conservation; enforcing environmental legislation; monitoring environmental quality; providing collection, transfer, treatment and disposal facilities for many types of waste; advising on the environmental implications of town planning and new policies; handling pollution complaints and incidents; and raising awareness and support in the community for environmental initiatives.'' Luen Wo Hui
Luen Wo Hui or Luen Wo Market is a market town east of Fanling in the New Territories of Hong Kong. It is located northeast of Fanling station. Administration For electoral purposes, Luen Wo Hui is part of the Luen Wo Hui constituency of the North District Council. It is currently represented by Chow Kam-ho, who was elected in the local elections. History Luen Wo Hui was formerly a market founded by villages in the surrounding area and later became a town. The old market has now ceased to operate and only a few structures are left. A new indoor market to replace the pre-existing market was officially opened in 2002. New private housing estates have in the last 10 years been built north of the market. Across Sha Tau Kok Road are industrial buildings. Wan Chai Environmental Resource Centre
The Old Wan Chai Post Office is the oldest surviving post office building in Hong Kong. It is situated at No. 221 Queen's Road East, at the junction with Wan Chai Gap Road. History The building was erected between 1912 and 1913, and opened on 1 March 1915 as the Wan Chai Post Office. It is not known whether the building was originally built and designed for such purpose. The post office ceased to operate in 1992, after having served the Wan Chai community continuously for 77 years. Features The Old Wan Chai Post Office is an L-shaped building. It is a simple pitched-roof structure with attractive gable ends and mouldings. Tsuen Wan Environmental Resource Centre
Tsuen Wan Environmental Resource Centre is housed in Old House, Hoi Pa Village, in Tak Wah Park, Tak Wah Street, Tsuen Wan, Hong Kong. History The Old House, is originally one of the houses of former Hoi Pa Village (), a Hakka mixed-lineage village. It was built by Mr. Yau Yuen-cheung (1865–1937), a village scholar of Hoi Pa Village. The old house was built with rammed earth, green bricks, green tiles and timber. It is a fine example of traditional southern Chinese village architecture. The village house, together with the adjacent areas, has now been developed into the Tak Wah Park. After the Antiquities and Monuments Office had given approval to convert the historical village house into an environment resource centre, the renovation work was done. The Centre was opened in December 1997. It is a joint venture of the Environmental Protection Department and the Conservancy Association. Fanling
Fanling ( zh, t=粉嶺; also spelled Fan Ling or Fan Leng) is a town in the New Territories East of Hong Kong. Administratively, it is part of the North District. Fanling Town is the main settlement of the Fanling area. The name Fanling is a shortened form of Fan Pik Leng (). The area has several public and private estates. Northwest of Fanling is Sheung Shui and southeast is Tai Po. Areas Part of Fanling–Sheung Shui New Town, Fanling Town includes Luen Wo Hui (), the marketplace of Fanling before urban development in the area, and Wo Hop Shek (), where an uphill public cemetery is located.
