Fangatau, or Nakai-erua, is a small atoll in the Tuamotu group in French Polynesia. The nearest land is Fakahina Atoll, located 72 km to the ESE. This small atoll has an elongated shape. Fakahina, or Kaīna, is a small atoll in the north of the Tuamotu group in French Polynesia. The nearest land is Fangatau Atoll, located 72 km to the north-west. Fakahina's length is and its maximum width . It has a land area of and a lagoon area of . There is no pass connecting the lagoon with the ocean. Fakahina has 155 inhabitants. The main village is Tarione. History The first recorded European to arrive to Fakahina Atoll was Otto von Kotzebue, sailing in the service of the Russian tsars, in 1824. Teana is a village located in the Fangatau atoll. Geography Teana is the main village on the atoll and is scattered across the main islet. There are also parts of the village on two other adjacent small islets. The rest of the village is connected to those two islets by a bridge. There is a bridge to the fourth islet, however it looks uninhabited. There is about 6 km² (2 sq mi) of land above water. The French overseas collectivities (''collectivité d'outre-mer'' or ''COM'') are first-order administrative divisions of France, like the French regions, but have a semi-autonomous status.
