Falls City Handicap
The Falls City Handicap is a Thoroughbred horse race run annually near the end of November at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. A Grade II event, the race is open to fillies and mares, age three and up, willing to race one and one-eighth miles on the dirt. It was run in two divisions in 1968, 1969, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1982 and 1985. When the graded stakes race system was implemented in the United States in 1973, the Falls City Handicap was awarded Grade 3 status. Reviewed annually, in 2002 it was upgraded to a Grade 2 level. Indian Maid
Indian Maid (foaled 1956 in Florida) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse who won three consecutive editions of the Falls City Handicap at Churchill Downs. Background Indian Maid was a bay mare bred in Florida by Elmer Heubeck Jr. During her racing career she was owned by pioneering female trainer Mary Keim of Evanston, Illinois. Racing career As a two-year-old Indian Maid's 1958 wins included the inaugural running of the Florida Breeders' Futurity at Sunshine Park. Then in Chicago she won the Land of Lincoln Stakes and the Hawthorne Juvenile Handicap in which she defeated colts. At age three, Indian Maid won the first of her three straight Falls City Handicaps and the first of two consecutive Yo Tambien Handicaps at Hawthorne Race Course. Churchill Downs
Churchill Downs is a horse racing complex located on Central Avenue in south Louisville, Kentucky, United States, famed for hosting the annual Kentucky Derby. It officially opened in 1875 and was named for Samuel Churchill, whose family was prominent in Kentucky for many years. The first Kentucky Derby, a Thoroughbred sweepstakes and part of today's horse racing Triple Crown, and the first Kentucky Oaks were held in the same year. Shaun Xavier Bridgmohan (born June 24, 1979 in Spanish Town, Jamaica) is a jockey in American Thoroughbred horse racing. At age thirteen, Bridgmohan's family emigrated to the United States, settling in South Florida where he developed an interest in horse racing. Before becoming a jockey, and while still in school, he worked at a Florida racetrack as a hot walker, groom, and as an exercise rider. After graduating from high school he pursued a riding career and in August 1997 earned his first win at Calder Race Course. Jon Kenton Court (born November 26, 1960 in Gainesville, Florida) is an American jockey in Thoroughbred horse racing. Having grown up in Florida, Jon Court began riding in Colorado at the now closed Centennial Park in 1980. He rode in Louisiana for 12 years before moving to Kentucky and Indiana in 1995, where he was a top rider at Hoosier Park from 1996 to 1998. In 1999, he gained his 2,000th win at Kentucky Downs. In 2001, he rode Percy Hope in the Lone Star Derby, winning, and in the Preakness Stakes, placing 9th. In 2003, he won the Japan Cup Dirt on Fleetstreet Dancer as a 48-1 longshot.
