Falkland Pursuivant
Falkland Pursuivant of Arms is a Scottish pursuivant of arms of the Court of the Lord Lyon. The title was first mentioned in 1493 and it is derived from the Royal Palace of the same name located in Fife. The title is often used for a Pursuivant Extraordinary: an officer who is not part of the ordinary complement of the Court but is called to duty when needed. Sir Malcolm Rognvald Innes of Edingight (25 May 1938 – 20 September 2020) was Lord Lyon King of Arms of Scotland from 1981 until 2001. Early life He was the son of Sir Thomas Innes of Learney (Lord Lyon from 1945 to 1969) and Lady Lucy Buchan, daughter of Norman Macleod Sinclair, 18th Earl of Caithness. He was educated at Edinburgh Academy and at the University of Edinburgh where he studied law. Career He was appointed a Writer to the Signet in 1964. Pursuivant
A pursuivant or, more correctly, pursuivant of arms, is a junior officer of arms. Most pursuivants are attached to official heraldic authorities, such as the College of Arms in London or the Court of the Lord Lyon in Edinburgh. In the mediaeval era, many great nobles employed their own officers of arms. Today, there still exist some private pursuivants that are not employed by a government authority. In Scotland, for example, several pursuivants of arms have been appointed by Clan Chiefs. These pursuivants of arms look after matters of heraldic and genealogical importance for clan members. Charles John Shaw-Mackenzie of Tordarroch, 7th of Newhall (3 March 1899 – 2 August 1978) was a British Army officer, Scottish officer of arms and clan chief. Shaw was the son of John Alexander Shaw-Mackenzie of Tordarroch, 6th of Newhall and Frances Yule. He was educated at Charterhouse School, before joining the British Army. He was commissioned into the Seaforth Highlanders in 1918 having attended the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. In 1924 he was appointed a Military Member of the Order of the British Empire. He was promoted to Captain in 1928. In 1934 he was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant for Ross and Cromarty.
