Falcon Rest
Falcon Rest, also known as the Clay Faulkner House, is a historic house in Warren County, Tennessee. It was built in 1896-1897 for Clay Faulkner, the son of politician and mill owner Asa Faulkner, who lived at Falconhurst. With Faulkner lived in the house with his wife, Mary King Saunders, and their five children. He was the owner of the Great Falls Cotton Mill. From 1929 to 1941, the house was owned by Dr. Herman Reynolds, who welcomed patients into his home. McMinnville Mayor W. V. Jones was the owner from 1943 to 1945. The house was later used as a hospital, until it was remodelled as a private residence by the Grissoms and the McGlothins in the 1980s. The house was designed in the Queen Anne architectural style. McMinnville, Tennessee
McMinnville is the largest city in and the county seat of Warren County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 13,605 at the 2010 census. It was named for Governor Joseph McMinn. Geography McMinnville is located at (35.686708, -85.779309), approximately south of Cookeville and northwest of Chattanooga. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of , all land. McMinnville lies at an elevation of , as it sits along the Eastern Highland Rim near the base of the Cumberland Plateau. Queen Anne style architecture was one of a number of popular Victorian architectural styles that emerged in the United States during the period from roughly 1880 to 1910. Popular there during this time, it followed the Second Empire and Stick styles and preceded the Richardsonian Romanesque and Shingle styles. Sub-movements of Queen Anne include the Eastlake movement. The style bears almost no relationship to the original Queen Anne style architecture in Britain (a toned-down version of English Baroque that was used mostly for gentry houses) which appeared during the time of Queen Anne, who reigned from 1702 to 1714, nor of Queen Anne Revival (which appeared in the latter 19th century there). The American style covers a wide range of picturesque buildings with "free Renaissance" (non-Gothic Revival) details, rather than being a specific formulaic style in its own right. Warren County is a county located on the Cumberland Plateau in Middle Tennessee, one of the three Grand Divisions of the U.S. state of Tennessee. As of the 2010 census, the population was 39,839. Its county seat is McMinnville. Warren County comprises the McMinnville, TN Micropolitan Statistical Area. History Warren County was created in 1807 from a portion of White County, and named for Joseph Warren (1741–1775), a soldier in the American Revolution. The revised Tennessee State Constitution of 1834 stated that no new county could be within of the county seat of the county from which it was formed. The boundaries of five counties formed from Warren— Grundy, Van Buren, Cannon, Coffee and DeKalb— were exactly 12 miles from Warren's county seat, McMinnville, giving the county its distinctive round shape. Asa Faulkner
Asa Faulkner (July 16, 1802 - July 29, 1886) was an American businessman and politician. He served in the Tennessee House of Representatives and the Tennessee Senate. Early life Asa Faulkner was born on July 16, 1802, in Edgefield County, South Carolina. His father was Dr. Archibald Faulkner and his mother, Rebecca Burkhalter. His father was of English descent, a fourth-generation Marylander. His mother was of German Quaker descent. His parents settled in Warren County, Tennessee when he was 6. Career Faulkner began his career by working for a woollen mill from 1812 to 1830, when he built his own. He also acquired a cotton gin and built a dam, and became wealthy by the 1840s. Faulkner sold "Faulkner Jeans." He was "the nestor of all of Warren County's manufacturing interests, and spent all his long life in founding, nourishing and sustaining them."
