Fakhri Kawar
Fakhri Kawar ( ar, فخري قعوار) is a Jordanian writer and parliamentarian. He was born in the Jordanian town of Al-Jafour near the border city of Mafraq in 1945. He was educated in Jerusalem where he received the General Secondary Education Certificate (Tawjihi) from the Ibrahimieh College in Jerusalem in 1964. He later enrolled in Beirut Arab University to earn a BA in Arabic language and literature in 1971. Career Kawar worked upon graduation as a teacher in several private schools in each of Zarqa and Amman. He also worked at Yarmouk University in Irbid for several months in mid-1970s. The Prime Minister at the time, Mudar Badran, dismissed Kawar from his post after the latter published an article entitled "Amman fi el-Qalb" Amman is in the heart" in the '' Al Ra'i'' newspaper. Jordan ( ar, الأردن; tr. ' ), officially the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan,; tr. ' is a country in Western Asia. The Parliament of Jordan ( ar, مجلس الأمة ') is the bicameral Jordanian national assembly. Established by the 1952 Constitution, the legislature consists of two houses: the Senate ( ar, مجلس الأعيان ''Majlis Al-Aayan'') and the House of Representatives ( ar, مجلس النواب ''Majlis Al-Nuwaab''). The Senate has 65 members, all of whom are directly appointed by the King, while the House of Representatives has 130 elected members, with nine seats reserved for Christians, three are for Chechen and Circassian minorities, and fifteen for women. The Arab Writers Union (ar.: اتحاد الكتاب العرب) is an association of Arab writers, founded in 1969, in Damascus, Syria, at the initiative of a group of Arab writers including Syrian novelist Hanna Mina. In 2008, the union was moved from Damascus to Cairo and in 2015 to Abu Dhabi. Its current president is Dr. Muhammad Al-Hourani. In 2010, the Union published a list of the "100 Best Arabic novels," although the list in fact contained 105 entries. ''Al Ra'i'' ( ar, الرأي, meaning "The Opinion"), also spelled ''Alrai'', is an Arabic daily newspaper in Jordan. The Jordan Press Foundation, owner of the ''Al Rai'', is government-owned.
