Faiyaz Koya
Faiyaz Siddiq Koya is an Fijian politician of Indian descent and Member of the Parliament of Fiji. He served as Minister for Industry, Trade, Tourism, Lands & Mineral Resources from 2014 to 2018. In March 2020, Koya was awarded a Parliamentary seat. In April 2020, after Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama announced a cabinet reshuffle, Faiyaz Koya was appointed the portfolios of Minister for Commerce, Trade, Tourism and transport. Koya is the son of former National Federation Party leader Sidiq Koya. He is a lawyer and a former board member of Tourism Fiji, the Fiji Legal Aid Commission and the Fiji Hotel Licensing Board. In the 2014 election Koya received 895 votes, the 81st highest total amongst all candidates and the 31st highest number of votes among FijiFirst candidates. The Attorney-General is a political and legal officer in Fiji. The attorney-general is the chief law officer of the State, and has responsibility for supervising Fijian law and advising the government on legal matters. Like other members of the Fijian Cabinet, the attorney-general is appointed by the president on the advice of the prime minister. FijiFirst ( fj, iMatai ni Viti) is a liberal political party in Fiji. The party was formed in March 2014 by then Prime Minister, Frank Bainimarama. Formation The party was launched on 31 March 2014 with Bainimarama beginning a nationwide tour of the country in a campaign bus to collect the obligatory 5000 signatures necessary to register a political party. The party collected over 40,000 signatures for its registration. Bainimarama says FijiFirst is a name that encompasses his political beliefs. He listed his first candidate and party president Jiko Luveni. The party appointed former Fiji Labour Party senator Bijai Prasad as one of its Vice Presidents as well as the current Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum as the party General secretary. Premila Kumar is a Fijian consumer advocate, politician and former Cabinet Minister. She served as chief executive of the Consumer Council of Fiji from 2006 to 2018, and then as a Cabinet Minister in the government of Frank Bainimarama from 2018 to 2022. She is a member of the FijiFirst party. Early life Kumar was born in Suva and educated at Suva Methodist Primary School, Dudley Intermediate, and Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School. She then studied for a bachelor of science at Sophia College for Women in India, before working as a teacher. She later completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Education at the University of the South Pacific, and a Master of Science in trade and the environment in the Netherlands.
