Faithlift
''Faithlift'' is a 1993 album by Canadian band Spirit of the West. It is the band's best-selling album, and includes their biggest Canadian Top 40 hit, "And if Venice Is Sinking." The album peaked at #27 on ''RPM (magazine), RPMs Top 100 albums chart the week of October 30, 1993. Although ''Faithlift'' is one of the band's rock music, rock albums, several songs (particularly "Sadness Grows" and "Death on the Beach") retain the Celtic music, Celtic folk flavour that the band was previously known for. Spirit of the West were a Canadian folk rock band from North Vancouver, active from 1983 to 2016. "And if Venice Is Sinking" is a song written by John Mann and Geoffrey Kelly for the Canadian folk-rock band Spirit of the West. Spirit of the West recorded the song on their studio album ''Faithlift''. It also appeared on their greatest hits album ''Hit Parade'', both in the original studio single and as a live recording with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. Content The song is about Mann's honeymoon in Venice with his wife, Jill Daum. Michael Phillip Wojewoda
Michael Phillip Wojewoda is a Canadian record producer and musician. He has been nominated for eight Juno Awards and has received one for Recording Engineer of the Year and one for Producer of the Year. History Wojewoda began recording bands in 1977, working in the basement of his mother's beauty salon and using rudimentary equipment. In 1985, he produced the 2016 Polaris Music Prize and 2017 Polaris Music Prize Heritage Prize nominated album ''To Sir With Hate'' by Fifth Column. Go Figure (album)
''Go Figure'' is the fifth studio album by Canadian folk rock group Spirit of the West, released on June 25, 1991 by Warner Music Canada. It was the band's first rock album, and their first with drummer Vince Ditrich. The album garnered the band new airplay on rock music radio stations, although it was controversial among the band's traditional folk music fan base. The album includes a rock rendition of " Political", one of the band's best known songs. During the concert tour to support this album, fans in one city actually presented the band with a petition requesting that they play the ''old'' version of that song. ''Two Headed'' is a 1995 album by Spirit of the West. It is the band's darkest and heaviest album, with many songs directly addressing the subject of death. Ken Marshall, a noted Canadian producer of industrial music, produced the album, giving many songs a densely layered, textured production which results in an almost psychedelic hard rock sound. The album reached #20 on ''RPMs Top 100 albums chart the week of July 31, 1995. "Tell Me What I Think", the album's first single, was a notable hit, peaking at #25 on the ''RPM'' singles chart the week of August 14. The song was also released on CD single, with several remixes by Marshall. The song's video, directed by Morris Panych, was choreographed around a fixed-location camera. The Wonder Stuff
The Wonder Stuff are a British alternative rock band. Originally based in Stourbridge in the West Midlands, England, the band's first lineup released four albums and nearly 20 singles and EPs, enjoying considerable chart and live success in the UK. The band have continued to tour and record since 2000. Largely the vehicle for the songwriting of Miles Hunt, the band split up with a farewell performance as headliners of the 1994 Phoenix Festival, but reformed in 2000 and have toured and recorded since then, with Hunt the anchor member of all line-ups. Known for their catchy songs and Hunt's sharp lyrics, the band's sound evolved from guitar pop to include sampling and elements of folk and country. Geoffrey Kelly
Geoffrey Kelly (born October 23, 1956 in Dumfries, Scotland) is a Canadians, Canadian rock musician. He played guitars, flutes and bodhrán for the folk rock band Spirit of the West, for whom he was also the lead vocalist on some songs: Geoffrey Kelly and John Mann were the band's primary songwriters and founders. They were often referred to as the "Glummer Twins". Their partnership endured through the years until the final 3 SOTW shows at the beloved Commodore Ballroom in April of 2016. The Spirit of Canada shows took place at the Commodore the following year with an all star cast of Canada's finest. John Fraser Mann (September 18, 1962 – November 20, 2019) was a Canadian rock musician, songwriter and actor. He was best known as the frontman of the folk rock band Spirit of the West. Early career Born in Calgary, Alberta, Mann relocated to Vancouver, British Columbia, to study theatre at Studio 58. He left Studio 58 in 1983 and co-founded the band Spirit of the West. The band released its first Independent music, independent album the following year. Music Mann was the lead vocalist of the folk rock band Spirit of the West and the band's co-founder and co-songwriter along with bandmate Geoffrey Kelly. Spirit of the West's music is a mixture of Folk music, folk, Alternative rock and Pop music, pop with a Celtic music, Celtic-influenced sound.
