Diamond League
The Diamond League is an annual series of elite track and field athletic competitions comprising fourteen of the best invitational athletics meetings. The series sits in the top tier of the World Athletics (formerly known as the IAAF) one-day meeting competitions. The inaugural season was in 2010. It was designed to replace the IAAF Golden League, which had been held annually since 1998. The full sponsorship name is the Wanda Diamond League, the result of an agreement with Wanda Group that was announced in December 2019. While the Golden League was formed to increase the profile of the leading European athletics competitions, the Diamond League's aim is to "enhance the worldwide appeal of athletics by going outside Europe for the first time." In addition to the original Golden League members (except Berlin) and other traditional European competitions, the series now includes events in China, Qatar, Morocco, and the United States. The women's 1500 metres at the 2015 World Championships in Athletics was held at the Beijing National Stadium on 22, 23 and 25 August. Summary Abeba Aregawi of Sweden entered as the defending champion, although her preparations that year were hampered by injury. In contrast, the world-leading athlete that season Genzebe Dibaba had broken the long-standing world record for the event the previous month. The semi-finals were definitely a contrast with the second semi run eight seconds faster than the first, still no favorites were left behind. From the gun in the final, the field seemed to drop back in unison, leaving Americans Shannon Rowbury and Jennifer Simpson out front. With no guidance, the two jogged through a 1:17.06 first lap. As the slow pace continued, the overwhelming favorite Dibaba jogged up to the outside of Simpson's shoulder. With just over 2 laps to go, Dibaba took the lead and turned it into an 800-meter race, her first 100 metres of acceleration bringing t ... 2022 World Athletics Championships – Women's 1500 Metres
The women's 1500 metres at the 2022 World Athletics Championships was held at the Hayward Field in Eugene from 15 to 18 July 2022. Summary Championship 1500 races typically are not fast, instead most athletes bide their time and save their energy to kick for the medals at the end. Gudaf Tsegay didn't get the memo. From the gun, she took off at a serious fast pace. Only her Ethiopian teammate Hirut Meshesha, Olympic Champion Faith Kipyegon and Olympic silver medalist Laura Muir chose to go with her. 150 metres into the race, a gap was already formed. The first 400 metres was covered in under 59 seconds, which would be a good opening lap of an 800 metres. The gap was 15 metres to the others. On the second lap, Meshesha was struggling to stay on the back of the breakaway group, then as compensation, sped up to pull even with Tsegay causing Kipyegon to tighten up to the group. But that burst was Meshesha's last gasp as she began to fall off the back. The medals looked settl ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

2022 World Athletics Championships
The 2022 World Athletics Championships was the eighteenth edition of the World Athletics Championships. It was held at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, United States, from July 15–24, 2022, with the country hosting that competition for the first time. After the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, World Athletics banned all Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials from participating at the championships. In addition, the stringent vaccination requirements for people entering the United States caused visa delays for participants and officials, with some ultimately being unable to enter the country. These issues caused the final total to stand at 179 nations (180 including the Athlete Refugee Team), the lowest number since Tokyo 1991. A record 29 countries won at least one gold medal during the championships. Peru, Kazakhstan, and Nigeria won the ...
