Jack Harvey (actor And Director)
Jack Harvey (born John Joseph Harvey; September 16, 1881 – November 9, 1954) was an American film actor, director and screenwriter, noted for his short films of the silent period. Among his directed films are ''A Dog's Love'' (1914) (the first of many collaborations with Shep, a well-trained Collie of the Thanhouser Company), ''When Fate Rebelled'' (1915), '' Fairy Fern Seed'' (1915), '' Kaiser's Finish'' (1918) and his last film ''No Babies Wanted'' (1928), accredited as John J. Harvey. He continued to act, but most of his roles after the 1920s were very minor and uncredited in films such as ''Cardinal Richelieu'' (1935) and ''Anchors Aweigh'' (1945). He also continued to write for films until his death in 1954, the last of which was '' City Beneath the Sea'' (1953). Thanhouser
The Thanhouser Company (later the Thanhouser Film Corporation) was one of the first motion picture studios, founded in 1909 by Edwin Thanhouser, his wife Gertrude and his brother-in-law Lloyd Lonergan. It operated in New York City until 1920, producing over a thousand films. Corporate history Edwin Thanhouser constructed a studio in New Rochelle, New York. The company thrived under his leadership and by the summer of 1910, it had established itself as the best of the independents in the industry. Frank E. Woods of the American Biograph Company would pen an editorial in ''The New York Dramatic Mirror'' as "The Spectator", praising the Thanhouser company to this effect. It was sold to Mutual Film Corporation on April 15, 1912, for $250,000. Charles J. Hite took charge. Ethel Jewett
Ethel Jewett (September 8, 1877 – December 8, 1944) was an American silent film actress. Biography Jewett was born in Portland, Oregon in 1877. She was educated in Portland and San Francisco, California. In late 1901, she joined a stage company headed by Don Daly, and appeared in Philadelphia at the Garrick Theatre with Daly's troupe in a stage production of ''The New Yorkers'' in December that year. She also worked as a model, and later appeared in productions in New York City at the Weber Music Hall in 1906. She would go on to appear in multiple silent films beginning in 1910, working for American Biograph, Gaumont Film Company, Gaumont, Famous Players Film Company, Famous Players, and Thanhouser Company, Thanhouser. James William Cooley (September 18, 1926 – June 29, 2016) was an American mathematician. Cooley received a B.A. degree in 1949 from Manhattan College, Bronx, NY, an M.A. degree in 1951 from Columbia University, New York, NY, and a Ph.D. degree in 1961 in applied mathematics from Columbia University. He was a programmer on John von Neumann's computer at the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton, NJ, from 1953 to 1956, where he notably programmed the Blackman–Tukey transformation. He worked on quantum mechanical computations at the Courant Institute, New York University, from 1956 to 1962, when he joined the Research Staff at the IBM Watson Research Center, Yorktown Heights, NY.
