Fair Sex
''Fair Sex'' (french: Les Manèges humains) is a Canadian drama film, directed by Martin Laroche and released in 2012. The film stars Marie-Évelyne Lessard as Sophie, a young immigrant woman who has just graduated from film school. While working on her first film project she meets and develops a romantic interest in Frédéric (Marc-André Brunet), which brings up her own unresolved emotional trauma around having been a childhood victim of female genital mutilation. The cast also includes Normand Daoust, Stephanie Dawson, Alexandre Dubois and Michel Vézina. The film premiered at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in 2012, and was screened at the Abitibi-Témiscamingue International Film Festival and the Whistler Film Festival later in the year, before going into commercial release in early 2013. Martin Laroche is a Canadian film director and screenwriter from Quebec.Normand Provencher"Les manèges humains: carrousel d'émotions" ''Le Soleil'', July 1, 2012. He is most noted for his 2012 film '' Fair Sex (Les Manèges humains)'', which received four Jutra Award nominations at the 16th Jutra Awards in 2014 including a nod for Laroche in the Best Screenplay category. Originally from Victoriaville, Quebec, he is a film studies graduate of the Université du Québec à Montréal. He wrote and directed his debut feature film, ''La logique du remords'', in 2007, and followed up with ''Modernaire'' in 2009. Québec Cinéma presents an annual award for Best Supporting Actor (french: Prix Iris de la meilleure interprétation masculin dans un rôle de soutien) to recognize the best in the Cinema of Quebec. Until 2016, it was known as the Jutra Award for Best Supporting Actor in memory of influential Quebec film director Claude Jutra.
