Faculty Of Travel Medicine
The Faculty of Travel Medicine (FTM) of The Australasian College of Tropical Medicine (ACTM) is an Australasian medical association.: It was founded on 9 March 2000 by the ACTM College Council. Faculty Chairs have included Professor Peter A. Leggat(1999-2001), Dr Mathew Klein (2001-2010) and Dr Jenny Sisson (2010–Present). Before it was founded, the International Society of Travel Medicine (ISTM) was the only major professional organisation representing those working in travel medicine in the region; it still has approximately 100 members in Australasia. The ACTM and the ISTM have co-hosted a joint Scientific Meeting in 2008, the Asia Pacific International Conference on Travel Medicine. One other Faculty of Travel Medicine has been established in 2006 as part of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. The Australasian College of Tropical Medicine, more commonly known by its acronym ACTM is an Australasian medical association founded by 10 interested clinicians, scientists and researchers at the Anton Breinl Centre in Townsville, Australia on 29 May 1991. The ACTM is a preeminent professional organisation in tropical medicine in the Australasian region and claims to have more than 800 fellows and members worldwide. The ACTM is committed to the development of tropical medicine and is working with professionals to help manage the global burden of tropical disease and injury through networking, research and development. Australasia
Australasia is a region that comprises Australia, New Zealand and some neighbouring islands in the Pacific Ocean. The term is used in a number of different contexts, including geopolitically, physiogeographically, philologically, and ecologically, where the term covers several slightly different, but related regions. International Society Of Travel Medicine
The International Society of Travel Medicine (ISTM) is an international society of physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and other medical professionals based in Dunwoody, United States to promote travel health initiatives. Founded as an organization in 1991, ISTM has built a global network that is committed to the advancement of travel medicine - currently the largest organization of this type. The ISTM fosters research, facilitates the rapid exchange of information, and provides educational programming to serve the travel medicine community. Wilderness Medicine
Wilderness medicine is a rapidly evolving field and is of increasing importance as more people engage in hiking, climbing, kayaking, and other potentially hazardous activities in the backcountry. The modern definition of wilderness medicine is "medical care delivered in those areas where fixed or transient geographic challenges reduce availability of, or alter requirements for, medical or patient movement resources". A primary focus of the field is the evaluation, prioritization (triage), preliminary treatment of acute injuries or illnesses which occur in those environments and the emergency evacuation of victims.
