FOB Delaram
Forward Operating Base Delaram in Afghanistan is a former military expeditionary base built by the United States Marine Corps. It is located on the Ring Road in Delaram. It was transferred to the Afghan National Army in April 2014. It was later the headquarters of 4th Brigade, 215th Corps, which was formed in 2012, prior to the Taliban takeover in 2021. History The FOB was originally a Soviet military compound. The Marines named it FOB Kerella, after the first Marine stationed at this FOB to die in OEF, Cpl Jason Karella of 2nd Battalion 7th Marines. It was renamed FOB Delaram, after the nearby city, sometime after 2008. Camp Delaram was constructed to accommodate the U.S. Marine Corps. The camp also serves as a storage place for logistics and equipment. Forward Operating Base
A forward operating base (FOB) is any secured forward Operational level of war, operational level military position, commonly a military base, that is used to support strategic goals and tactical objectives. A FOB may or may not contain an airfield, hospital, machine shop, or other logistical facilities. The base may be used for an extended period of time. FOBs are traditionally supported by main operating bases that are required to provide backup support to them. A FOB also improves reaction time to local areas as opposed to having all troops on the main operating base. Description In its most basic form, a FOB consists of a ring of barbed wire around a position with a fortified entry control point, or ECP. Marine Air Control Squadron 1 (MACS-1) is a United States Marine Corps aviation command and control squadron . The squadron provides aerial surveillance, air traffic control, ground-controlled intercept, and aviation data-link connectivity for the I Marine Expeditionary Force. 5th Battalion 11th Marines (5/11) is a High Mobility Artillery Rocket System ( HIMARS) battalion consisting of four Firing Batteries and a Headquarters Battery. The battalion is stationed at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California. It is the first active duty HIMARS Unit in the Marine Corps. They fall under the command of the 11th Marine Regiment and the 1st Marine Division. This is the only battalion in the 11th Marine Regiment not using the M777A2 lightweight howitzer. The 6th Marine Regiment (also referred to as "6th Marines") is an infantry regiment of the United States Marine Corps based at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
