Radio Broadcasting
Radio broadcasting is transmission of audio (sound), sometimes with related metadata, by radio waves to radio receivers belonging to a public audience. In terrestrial radio broadcasting the radio waves are broadcast by a land-based radio station, while in satellite radio the radio waves are broadcast by a satellite in Earth orbit. To receive the content the listener must have a broadcast radio receiver (''radio''). Stations are often affiliated with a radio network which provides content in a common radio format, either in broadcast syndication or simulcast or both. CBQV-FM
CBQT-FM is a Canadian radio station. It is the CBC Radio One station in Thunder Bay, Ontario, broadcasting at 88.3 FM, and serves all of Northwestern Ontario through a network of relay transmitters. History The station was launched in 1973 as CBQ on 800 AM. The 800 frequency had been vacated earlier that year by the defunct CJLX. CBQ Radio's inaugural morning broadcast in December 1973 made it the second city in Ontario to get a regional broadcast centre. The call sign CBQ was a last minute choice by station managers since CBL (for Lakehead) or CBT (for Thunder Bay) were already taken by the CBC stations in Toronto and Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland and Labrabor, respectively. CIQB-FM (101.1 MHz) is a commercial radio station in Barrie, Ontario. The station uses the on-air brand name ''Big 101'' and is owned by Corus Entertainment, which also owns sister station CHAY-FM. CIQB broadcasts a classic hits format, switching to Christmas music for much of November and December. History On August 1, 1949, the station first signed on as CKBB. CHOX-FM is a Canadian radio station that broadcasts a francophone adult contemporary format at 97.5 FM in La Pocatière, Quebec. CHLI-FM, or ''Rossland Community Radio Co-operative'', was a volunteer-led co-operative community radio station in Rossland, British Columbia, Canada. History The co-operative applied for a low-power broadcast license with the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission, with the aim to broadcast at 5 watts of power on the FM dial at 101.1 with the call letters CHLI, and the station was given approval by the CRTC on May 15, 2008. As of March 2008, the co-op had more than 75 members and was housed in the Rossland United Church building. Rossland Radio Coop began official broadcasting on December 31, 2008. CHFA-FM is a Canadian radio station, which broadcasts the programming of Radio-Canada's Ici Radio-Canada Première network in Edmonton, Alberta. The station was launched in 1949 by a local non-profit consortium to bring French radio service to Edmonton, and was directly acquired by the network in 1974. The station serves the entire province of Alberta from its studios in Edmonton, although it also maintains a smaller bureau in Calgary. For most of its history, the station broadcast at 680 AM.
