FMW Tournaments
Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling held a variety of professional wrestling tournaments competed for by wrestlers that were part of their roster during its existence between 1989 and 2001. Sporadic tournaments Battle Resistance Open Tournament FMW's first tournament, a single-elimination tournament took place at the ''Battle Resistance - 1st Open Tournament'' event on January 7, 1990. Aside from the tournament, the event also featured a women's wrestling match between Miwa Sato and Kumiko Matsuda. ;Non-tournament match AWA World Light Heavyweight Championship Tournament A six-man tournament was set up for the vacant AWA World Light Heavyweight Championship on September 25, 1990 after previous champion Lee Gak-soo left FMW earlier that month. Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling
Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling is a Japanese professional wrestling promotion founded on July 28, 1989, by Atsushi Onita as (FMW). The promotion specializes in hardcore wrestling involving weapons such as barbed wire and fire. They held their first show on October 6, 1989. In the late 1990s, FMW had a brief working agreement with Extreme Championship Wrestling, and as well had 14 DVDs released in the U.S. by Tokyopop. On March 4, 2015, FMW was resurrected under the name . With the resurrected FMW not holding any events since 2018, Onita announced in 2021 that he would be starting Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling-Explosion in which the promotion would specialize in exploding death matches. Grigory Vladimirovich Verichev (russian: Григорий владимирович Веричев; April 4, 1957 – May 25, 2006) was a Russia, Russian judoka who competed for the Soviet Union in the 1988 Summer Olympics. Noriyo Toyoda
Noriyo Toyoda (豊田 記代, born October 26, 1967) is a retired Japanese professional wrestler, best known under the name Combat Toyoda (コンバット豊田). She spent much of her career in Frontier Martial Arts Wrestling. Professional wrestling career Trained by Jaguar Yokota in the All Japan Women's Pro Wrestling Dojo, Noriyo Toyoda debuted on September 17, 1986, against the future Aja Kong, Erika Shishido. That same year, she was named Rookie of the Year by the promotion. However, by 1988, she was passed over by the promotion and left the promotion. After a couple years in a hiatus, Toyoda, alongside her fellow AJW dojo mates Megumi Kudo and Reibun Amada, was asked by Atsushi Onita to join Frontier Martial Arts Wrestling. Bad Nurse Nakamura
is a retired Japanese professional wrestler known as . She worked most of her career for Frontier Martial Arts Wrestling. Career After dropping out of high school, Rie Nakamura joined the Frontier Martial Arts Wrestling Dojo, where she was trained by Tarzan Goto and Megumi Kudo. She debuted on December 22, 1990, on FMW's first all-female show, losing to Keiko Iwami, who also made her debut. After paying her dues for over two years, she finally began to move up the ranks. In August 1993, she became known as Nurse Nakamura, portraying a sweet registered nurse. She was initially paired with former IWE veteran Mr. Chin, who was periodically wrestling comedy matches for FMW, due to his diabetes. She would (kayfabe) help examine Chin's condition. Megumi Kudo
is a Japanese entertainment personality and former professional wrestler. She wrestled under her maiden name for Frontier Martial Arts Wrestling, where she became the top star of the Women's Division. Kudo is primarily known for competing in brutal death matches, where the ring ropes were replaced with barbed wire. Professional wrestling career Kudo played basketball in high school. She joined All Japan Women's Pro-Wrestling at the age of 16, but did not achieve any substantial success. Kudo was released in March 1988. Following her release, Kudo worked as a kindergarten teacher. Kudo returned to wrestling in March 1990 with Frontier Martial Arts Wrestling. Kudo participated in Japan's first mixed tag team match in October 1990, teaming with Ricky Fuji in a losing effort to Tarzan Goto and Despina Montagas. Eriko Tsuchiya (土屋 恵理子, born February 19, 1970) is a Japanese retired professional wrestler better known by the ring name Shark Tsuchiya (シャーク土屋). She spent most of her career working for Frontier Martial Arts Wrestling. Professional wrestling career Frontier Martial Arts Wrestling (1989–1998) Trained by Tarzan Goto in the FMW Dojo, Eriko Tsuchiya debuted on the very first Frontier Martial Arts Wrestling show on October 6, 1989, losing a four-way match to Witch Warrior, which also saw Miwa Sato and Kumiko Matsuda debut as well. Tsuchiya spent the first year teaming with Matsuda until March 1990, when Yoshika Maedomari debuted, and she began teaming with Maedomari. Edward George Farhat (June 7, 1926 – January 18, 2003) was an American professional wrestler, better known by his ring name The Sheik (often called The Original Sheik to distinguish him from The Iron Sheik, who debuted in 1972). Farhat is credited as one of the originators of the hardcore wrestling style. He was also the promoter of Big Time Wrestling, and the uncle of ECW wrestler Sabu. Farhat promoted his shows at Cobo Hall in Detroit and was the booker for Frank Tunney's shows at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto from 1971 to 1977. Tag Team
Tag team wrestling is a type of professional wrestling in which matches are contested between teams of multiple wrestlers. Tag teams may be made up of wrestlers who normally wrestle in singles competition, but more commonly are made of established teams who wrestle regularly as a unit and have a team name and identity. In most team matches, only one competitor per team is allowed in the ring at a time.
