FIS Ski Flying World Championships 1979
The FIS Ski Flying World Ski Championships 1979 was held between 17–18 March in Planica, Yugoslavia for the second time in front of total 115,000 people in four days. Schedule Rules Scoring system rules were changed in the last moment, just two days before official competition. Originally total 3 of 9 jumps, the best one of each three days was supposed to go into final score. But technical delegate of competition, Norwegian Torbjørn Yggeseth who is known as the founder of the World Cup, proposed the change of rules: total 6 of 9 jumps, the best two of each three days were incorporated. Although only 4 of 6 rounds counted at the end as first day of competition was canceled. To perform on Saturday and Sunday competition, competitor had to reach 75% average of top 10 jumps in at least one round on official training on Thursday or at first day of competition on Friday. Letalnica Bratov Gorišek
Letalnica bratov Gorišek ( en, Flying hill of Gorišek brothers) is one of the two largest ski flying hills in the world and the biggest of eight hills located at the Planica Nordic Centre in Planica, Slovenia. It was built in 1969 and is named after the original constructors and brothers Vlado and Janez Gorišek. Since its opening, a total of 28 world records were set at the venue. Yugoslav ski jumper Miro Oman made the inaugural test jump of on 6 March 1969. The first FIS Ski Flying World Championships were organized on the hill in 1972. After Matti Nykänen set a world record jump of at the 1985 FIS Ski Flying World Championships, a new rule was instituted by the International Ski Federation that awarded no additional points for jumps over this distance due to safety reasons. Vasja Bajc (born 19 January 1962) is a Slovenian ski jumping coach and former ski jumper who competed from 1979 to 1988, during which time he represented Yugoslavia. At World Cup level his best individual finishes were fifth in Planica on 21 March 1980 and ninth in Harrachov on 14 January 1984. He also competed at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, finishing 15th in the large hill and 17th in the normal hill competitions.
