The FINA Water Polo World Rankings is a ranking system for men's and women's national teams in water polo. The teams of the member nations of FINA, water polo's world governing body, are ranked based on their competitions results with the most successful teams being ranked highest. Water Polo
Water polo is a competitive team sport played in water between two teams of seven players each. The game consists of four quarters in which the teams attempt to score goals by throwing the ball into the opposing team's goal. The team with the most goals at the end of the game wins the match. Each team is made up of six field players and one goalkeeper. Excluding the goalkeeper, players participate in both offensive and defensive roles. It is typically played in an all-deep pool where players cannot touch the bottom. A game consists mainly of the players swimming to move about the pool, treading water (mainly using the eggbeater kick), passing the ball, and shooting at the goal. Teamwork, tactical thinking and awareness are also highly important aspects. Water polo is a highly physical and demanding sport and has frequently been cited as one of the most difficult to play. 2017 FINA Men's Water Polo World League
The 2017 FINA Water Polo World League, FINA Men's Water Polo World League is the 16th edition of the annual men's international water polo tournament. It was played between November 2016 and June 2017 and opened to all men's water polo national teams. After participating in a preliminary round, eight teams qualify to play in a final tournament, called the Super Final from 20–25 June 2017. In the world league, there are specific rules that do not allow matches to end in a draw. If teams are level at the end of the 4th quarter of any world league match, the match will be decided by a penalty shootout. Water Polo At The 2017 World Aquatics Championships – Women's Tournament
The women's water polo tournament at the 2017 World Aquatics Championships, organised by the FINA, was held in Budapest, Hungary from 16 to 28 July 2017. The United States captured their fifth title by defeating Spain 13–6 in the final match. Bronze was secured by Russia who beat Canada 11–9. The 2018 FINA Water Polo World League, FINA Women's Water Polo World League was the 15th edition of the annual women's international water polo tournament. It was played between November 2017 and June 2018 and open to all women's water polo national teams. After participating in a preliminary round, eight teams qualified to play in a final tournament, called the Super Final from 28 May to 2 June 2018. In the world league, there are specific rules that do not allow matches to end in a draw.
