FIBA Americas Championship 2007
The 2007 FIBA Americas Championships later known as the FIBA AmeriCup (or The Tournament of the Americas), was a basketball tournament held at Thomas & Mack Center, in Las Vegas, from August 22, to September 2. It was the thirteenth staging of the FIBA AmeriCup. The tournament was originally going to be hosted in Venezuela. However, the Venezuelan federation failed to pay a $1.5 million fee, as of August 31, 2006. As such, their hosting privileges were taken away. Several countries had shown interest in hosting the tournament, including: United States, Chile, Argentina, and Puerto Rico. The United States had not hosted it since 1992, Chile had never hosted it, Argentina had held it last in 2001, and Puerto Rico had last hosted in 2003. 2006 Centrobasket
The 2006 Men's Central American and Caribbean Basketball Championship, also known as 2006 Centrobasket, was hosted in Panama City, Panama. The ATLAPA Convention Center in Panama City served as the venue for all the games. Four teams qualified for the FIBA Americas Championship 2007 in Las Vegas, three teams qualified for the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and seven teams qualified for the 2006 Centroamerican Games in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia. José Juan Barea
José Juan Barea Mora (born June 26, 1984) is a Puerto Rican former professional basketball player and coach. He played college basketball for Northeastern University before joining the Mavericks in 2006 and becoming only the seventh Puerto Rican to play in the NBA. He went on to win an NBA championship with the Mavericks in 2011 before signing with the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he played for the next three seasons. He has also played in the NBA Development League and the Baloncesto Superior Nacional. Barea was a member of the Puerto Rican national team that won the gold medal in the 2006 and 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games. Eddie Rush
Eddie F. Rush (born September 19, 1961) is a professional basketball referee in the National Basketball Association (NBA). As of the 2006–07 NBA season, he had officiated 1,245 regular season, and 140 playoff games, including nine NBA Finals games. Early life Rush attended W.H. Spencer High School in Columbus, Georgia. At Spencer, he played basketball and baseball. Following high school, he attended college and graduated from Georgia State University in 1983. Officiating career Prior to joining the NBA, Rush worked high school games for ten years before progressing to college and professional basketball leagues. José Jaime Lloreda Ferrón (born November 10, 1980) is a Panamanian professional basketball player. He is a longtime member of the Panama men's national basketball team. College career Lloreda played two years of junior college ball for Dixie State College in St. George, Utah after graduating from the Berkshire Academy in Homestead, Florida. Nicolás Mazzarino (born October 21, 1975, in Salto) is a former Uruguayan professional basketball player, and current assistant coach for Club Biguá de Villa Biarritz of the Liga Uruguaya de Básquetbol. He also holds an Italian passport. At a height of 1.83 m (6'0") tall, he played the point guard and shooting guard positions. Esteban Damián Batista Hernández (born September 2, 1983) is a Uruguayan professional basketball player for Club Nacional de Football of the Liga Uruguaya de Basketball. He was the first ever Uruguayan to play in the NBA. Professional career Batista began his pro career in the Uruguayan League in 2001.
